actually. Most of the time Pets get bound and the smn chased off, letting the pet despawn.
One of the most annoying classes to be targeted by is SMN though, their dots are mean. I mean really mean for anything that doesnt have Tank HP pool
In my wildest dreams, they would completely rebalanced the Egi's and give Ifrit pure damage skills, Titan defensive skills (manaward/wall type ability that it can cast on the user) and Garuda would be CC with knockback and bind abilities. That way the Egi's would actually be of situational use both in PVP and PVE rather than just basically being different skins for damage.

Change to scholar. Problem solved.
Aside from being in the middle of things and being stunlocked to death, be sure to be at a safe distance
if possible. This is a great place to unleash garuda rouse spur enkindle, and raging strikes 3 DoTs, contagion
Bane. If you're too close into the action chances are a pld will be all over you making your life hell, because
you will be unable to cast anything.
A swiftcast tridisaster will help you evade some sticky situations.
Hope that helps, but yes stunlock sucks

SMN is a tough one sometimes to play in front lines. All someone has to do is move to your side and you're interrupted. But it takes some practice and when you get rolling on SMN you're a dangerous person!
Micro-manage Egi's seems to help me out a lot. I use Ifrit, I like the stun for those melee's when they finally get to me. In big fights I notice I don't get to use Garuda's extender move as much unless I'm on big node.
Tri-disaster and Blizzard II are my friends. Usually I try my best to use it at the same time with a LB or when someone's about to LB. Run over Tri or Bliz2, bind them and someone else uses aoe. it's not 100% but it happens often enough for me to like to use it. Using Bane, can really mess up a scholar, if you can get the pet to want to cure itself while all the focus is on the SCH or sometimes I can take down the pet quickly. I know there's a million situations where things can happen, purify / additional healers / outside of the circle white mage / A monk who sees a giant hellboy roe as a main target...these things happen. To me it's fine the way it is..when I go on smn I either go for the kill or hurt everyone so the healer has to make a choice..who lives..and who dies. Again there's ways around it...medica II / Medica / Bene etc... but these people aren't using these abilities all the time and if they do sure they save but that move is used up..and I just start building up from scratch all over again, then they don't have that move to use no more or can't because of interruptions.

I disagree. I love SMN in the front line. I haven't lost a single 1v1.
Vs Melee
Equanimity > Bio II, Miasma, Bio > Fester > (Aetheric Burst + Wither if necessary), Ruin II, Energy Drain, etc and they're dead.
Spur and Rouse + Garuda Enkindle blows them up as well.
Vs BLM
Swiftcast > Tridisaster > Move behind them > Bio II, Miasma, Bio > Fester, etc etc
Worst cast scenario is they use Purification, but then you just use Surecast > Tridisaster, heal up and start it over again![]()

You sound scary. Remind me to never fight you in PvP. :OI disagree. I love SMN in the front line. I haven't lost a single 1v1.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
This. I find SMN's most deadliest when encountered in 1on1 in openfield where you cant LoS them, if anyone needs help its dragoons imo. For some reason they will always lose when i play as PLD even if they get opening, Shield Swipe is just killer for them i guess combined with stun when they pop BfB.
But pvp should never be balanced around 1on1 so i think things are pretty decent atm, maybe some little tweaks here and there for some classes.
Pet behaviour could use some improvements, but aside from that, I'm pretty happy with SMN in PvP.
SMN is very powerful in frontline to be honest.. SMN has more instant skills which are very good in 1vs1.. BLM has a bit of difficulty in 1vs1 especially when fighting a melee.. in 3 sec cd, SMN can do 3 attacks ( ruin 2 + energy drain + pet attack)
SMN seems weak for most people, and they r not bcome the main target... which is actually very good.. SMN for me is a silent killer in frontline, people underestimate it.. at first i dont like to play SMN in frontline bcoz i think it's very weak, but after I know how to play it in frontline SMN has bcome one of my favorite job in PvP.. playing SMN in PvP is not the same in PvE.. u just need to learn how play it..
if u get interrupted, just use your instant skills
