SE recently filed a bunch of trademarks and one of them includes the name
"Souten No Ishgard" which has a possibility of being the expansion name

That will most likely be the 2.5 patch.
Heavensguard sounds more like the expansion name.

A little bit off topic, but I'm kinda confused. If the title in English is Blue Sky of Ishgard, wouldn't the name in japanese be Ishgard no Souten literally? Souten no Ishgard sounds more like "Ishgard, of the Blue Sky" or something like that. Which.. I guess doesn't matter since it has a similar meaning anyways lol but it emphasizes Ishgard, and not the blue sky.![]()

Why does this Reminds me of :
蒼天の拳 (Sōten no Ken)
Heli's Black Market open for business. Sells black market items for your exotic needs.
closed for business till further notice
Completely possible that both of them are the expansion. No one said the expansion's JP and English names had to be direct translations of one another. Plus why would they trademark the JP name and not the English translation as well? The article doesn't say if Heavensward was trademarked in both languages.

I agree that both are probably related to, if not the JPN and ENG names for the expansion. The English names for games often are not direct translations from Japanese.
If these names are hints at the theme for the expansion, floating continent and sky island hopping sounds awesome. Wonder how the plans for custom fc airships will tie in.

Patches aren't trademarked last I heard
Heavensward is only in English, likewise, Souten no Ishgard is only in Japanese.Completely possible that both of them are the expansion. It's very true that they don't have to share the same name, A Realm Reborn doesn't share the same name in Japan.
I'm hoping SE will skip 2.5 and go straight to the expansion for Christmas. I know we all hate rushed releases, but I don't think it would be rushed if they have the manpower assigned to it. It would be such a great Christmas present and would be the perfect response to Blizzard. Given that 2.4 will have the last Coils, it seems to me SE doesn't have to wait 3 months on that content to be cleared.
theres goes my hopes for a new continent to explore.....
