PS3 > Ps4 Transfer Query

I am in the process of getting a PS4, but would like to trade in my Ps3 towards the purchase. Do I require the PS3 console to transfer my data to PS4, or can I transfer it now, and then trade in my PS3, then log into my PS4 and have everything be a-ok? I'd just like to know if I need to have both consoles in my possession to do so, or if the data just gets clouded until I log into a PS4 with my acct.

you will want to have your ps3 on hand to transfer gear sets and such. after you do the upgrade via mogstation, you are pretty much set and can get your ps4 version

Just remember also that your character creation saves will not get trasfered.
At least mine didn't at the start of the year when I upgraded.

All macros and settings can be uploaded to SE servers, correct? I'm doing the same thing.

No - you don't need to have PS3 at the time of migration ...

Simply use the "Transfer Character Data PS3 -> PS4" option in the launcher page on your PS3 before you'll get rid of it - this will upload locally stored data to server and once you'll get the PS4 and upgrade the game use the same button to retrieve the data at PS4. Just remember that you can transfer only 8 characters at one go so if you have more than that you'll not be able to transfer remaining one without having PS3. It will select 8 most recently played ones so you can "choose" by login to each of those briefly you want to transfer.

Awesome guys, thanks for the input.
I guess I'll just click the transfer button on the log-in screen on my PS3 and take care of all that the day I decide to trade-in for the PS4. Do I also need to do anything on Mogstation from my laptop, or will it all be done right from my PS3?
And do the gear sets/macros really transfer, or will I have to re-do those? Because that is a huge minus in my book having everything @50...what a pain in the arse that would be ._.#

In the Mogstation you'll need to use the option Free PS3 -> PS4 upgrade. That will change your PS3 license to PS4 one there. And yes - it will copy over all your "local" settings which includeds gear sets, macros and cross bar settings. The only thing which is not copied (on purpose) is the HUD settings which is due to the differrent resolution on both systems. Also remeber in PS4 system settings to change the Display area to cover the whole screen as by default it has a thick "border" around to which you'd be otherwise unable to move the HUD elements in game.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to re-tooling the HUD/sys setting again...put a lot of time into that, but whatever. Not like I have much a choice in the matter, but it is nice to know that there is a way I can circumvent having to re-buld my macros.
