    Remaining Niches to Fill?

    Since Yoshi is firm with not adding jobs just to have the jobs present in the game and only adding jobs to match them up with a missing niche, what realistic niches do you see remaining?

    I ask because I have a sneaking suspicion that we may only see 12 classes/13 jobs. This would match up with the 12 deities with ACN being the match for Nald'thal, the twins (The 12 are actually 13 afterall). The Zodiac Weapons hint toward this as well, potentially only having 13 of them as their name suggests. The Zodiac in the FF series historically has 13.

    So what 3 niches could you see remaining? One for each role as we have confirmation of 1 healer and 1 tank coming with 3.0.

    Current Niches filled:

    High HP, two-handed reactive tank.
    Standard sword and board proactive tank.
    Reactive and AoE healer.
    Proactive healer with shields and mitigation. +Pet
    Physical fast paced DPS that excels in long fights.
    Physical spike DPS.
    Physical DoT sneaky DPS.
    Ranged physical DoT/Crit DPS. Party buffer.
    Magical spike DPS.
    Magical DoT DPS. +Pet

    I'm not sure how a HoT healer would work in this game.
    The dangerous damage comes from large spikes that need to be healed up quickly. If the HoTs can cover this, then the class would be overpowered and extremely easy to play. If the HoTs can't cover this, then the class would suck.

    HoT is a big part of WHM's skills. The rotation of Divine Seal + Regen + Medica II and regular Regen + Medica II is quite strong. If you have two WHMs doing this then not many cures need to be cast.

    Use resto druids as a base. They had a HoT that could be "detonated" for burst healing on demand.

    Being easy to play is not a bad thing, by the way. It'll mean more people may be willing to play that type of healer, which then means more people available to heal.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    I can't think of too much missing, per se, but there are things that should be possible. Dedicated buffers/ debuffers have often had their place in an MMO. I think there could be a place for a debuff oriented tank or something similar, though I suppose the debuffs could only be made to work if that individual is holding threat.

    The main problem currently is that everything is designed in a fairly rigid manner (1 tank, 2 DPS, 1 healer/ or double/ triple). Tossing in support classes with the way content is currently set up, for example, would be a disaster because you're either lacking a DPS in 4-man content, or if the buffs are powerful enough to compensate then you're overpowered in 8-man content. You can see what they did with BRD -- essentially just a DPS job that loses power when supporting the party. They'll have to take a very different approach to content creation to break out of this mold.

    Instead of songs, they use dance styles that grant bonuses similar to Bard but different as well.

    Honestly we have everything already once Ninja is added.

    There is a ton of things missing from this game. but Yoshida will have to get away from pure dps, pure tank, pure heal only mentality to add more unique jobs.

    We are missing support classes in a major way in this game (Brd does not even really count it is so restricted in its songs). There is no crowd control at all, although they are designing it to be unnessasary. And there is no Debuff class.

    I think you are exaggerating and inflating the numbers by counting the skill trees as separate classes.
    And to stay on topic, I think Beastmaster could serve a different niche by making them what SMN should have been, more emphasis on the pets rather than the character.
