    Lost...

I think i'm expected to just level right now. However i'm 2 levels under the next "daily" location and i don't know what i'm supposed to do to level. For all i know that's not even it.

Also what's the best method of finding people to talk with. Feels like such a single player game so far.

There are probably dozens of good conversations flying invisibly past you through the magic of linkpearls. I'd try shouting in Ul'dah or posting in your world server forum to try to find an LS. Generally you should find some welcoming individuals that will help you get started.

To start and try out various classes, do guildleves, whose counter you can find on your map. Look on ffxiv.yg.com to easily find the NPC that sells the 'weathered' main hand gear for the class you want to try. This can help you get some resources and experience to start out. Don't forget to get a retainer and put your stuff up for sale. Undercutting helps.

Also, do quests. If you see an NPC with a {!} above their heads, talk to them. Quests now give SP and often useful items as well.

More in regards to your question, the next area for battle leves unlocks at _3. So getting a battle class to R13 unlocks the R20 areas, R23 unlocks R30 areas, etc. The next region for gathering classes unlocks at _5 (I think!). So R15 would unlock R20. The next tier of crafting (local) leves unlocks every 5 ranks, so an R1 crafter can do R1 and R5 leves, but an R16 crafter can do leves up to R20.

    Hope that helps!

Hi, Robert! Good advice, as usual.

As for the above, I was recently told that Patch 1.18 changed the ranks required to move up a camp. So instead of unlocking new areas at _3, new camps are now unlocked at _5.

Haven't been able to test it out, but just thought I'd throw it out there in case the OP's experience is a little different.

Thanks for catching that Vydarr! Been a long time since R40s unlocked for me, so I was still working on old info. Actually since gathering leves move up on _5 this makes more sense.

Sorry, but if you want more help, you're going to have to be more specific than "I don't get it. The whole thing."

    What don't you get?

Ya i was feeling blue and i shoudn't have posted that.

Point is i'm terrible. I die all the time. I die on that battlewarden thing like 10 levels under me. People helping me i did nothing but fumble with the ui. I suppose this all needs to sink in but i hate the whole menu. I want a shortcut to open it and then i want a keyboard shortcut for everything in there.

Anyway. Apparently i'm in a gap between story quests. I can't do any of the side quests because i die all the time so i suppose i'll grind. At rank 13 or something. It's sad.

I don't have money. I'm in the forest aka "ghost" town. Crystals don't sell. No money for armor. Not that anyone's selling any...

Ya i'm whining... Feel free to ignore the rant. I'm obviously doing something wrong here because everyone else is doing just fine. However maybe those who are doing fine could explain to me what i'm doing wrong. Because the game sure as hell isn't explaining itself.

First things head to uldah, that is the central market on every server and also where 90% of the server is. The markets there are most likely full to capacity... literally.

Looking at your character info, I suggest taking a break from pug for a little and leveling up some other classes.

Getting a mage up a few levels will give you access to cure spells, which will help you stay alive and cut down on your down time greatly. If you get Thm to rank 20 you will get a tier 2 cure with massive hp regen as well as Siphon Mp which will help keep you from running out of mp.

Getting Archer Leveled some will give you access to raging strike which is a massive dmg increase
Getting lancer Leveled some will get you access to Ferocity which is the same as raging strike but slightly weaker.
Getting Mar leveled some will get you access to bloodbath which converts dmg you deal with an attack to HP for yourself

Remember you can mix and match most abilities and spells in the game. Cross class abilities are weaker off their main class but still allow you to build a strong job.

FFXIV is not like most mmo where you pick a class and level it and you get everything you need which is the case in XI, WoW, EQ, Aion, RIFT, Lineage, etc...

FFXIV your character is a blank canvas more or less, and your class ranks are your paints. The more you rank everything up the better the picture gets... OR to put it simply a class is not a job, a class is the parts you use to build a job. The more you level the stronger every class gets. IF you focus on 1 class you will always be extremely weak, level those jobs I stated and you will find at least at lower level you can easily kill mobs 8-10 ranks above you.

Money wise, crystals and shards are your best bet for lower levels. You can level mining, fishing, botany those all pull in very good profits when you can get +3 materials. Combine that with a high level craft you can make 10s of million off 1 synth with a little luck. making alot of money is going to be an investment in time as getting a capped gathering and crafter will take months.

Over all I highly highly suggest getting a linkshell, this is not a game you can play alone. In Uldah you can probably get one easy with a few shouts.

    I think this may help:

How to get to Ul'dah from Gridania

First, make sure you've visited the Aetheryte Plaza in Gridania and opened the interation menu there at least once so you can teleport back whenever you want. Gridania is a city nestled in a thick forest, so it sounds like that's where you are. Unfortunately, server population being what it is, everybody is in Ul'dah, the merchant city in the desert. Here's how to get there.

Exit the city (south). Look at your map (M). No matter which exit you came out, you should see Camp Bentbranch. Head there and continue to follow the road past it. It heads due south but wiggles back and forth a little. Keep running, following the road. It should take around 15-20min to make this run. You should pass in order: an entrance to Tam-Tara Deepcroft on your right, Buscarron's Fold right in the road, and a trail leading to Camp Tranquil on your left. Keep looking at your map to make sure you're on the path. You'll eventually hit an exit to Thanalan, which is the desert region.

Now after a short loading period you'll be in Thanalan. The road now goes Southwest over hills and such past Camp Drybone. Keep going west and you'll reach Camp Black Brush. If you check your map at this point and follow the road south from Black Brush, you'll see Ul'dah. Go in the city and you should see a lot more people than you're used to. You should be able to shout and find a group with a little effort. Your goods will also move through the market more quickly.
