As someone said, sleep helps a lot in situations where the tank is under-geared. It sucks that the group blamed you for his failure.

Brayflox is like an awkward puberty stage for paladins, where they don't have shield oath, but the difficulty seems to be set as if they should have it. It was rough with my paladin. That was my main class and my gear was up to date, but just normal quality stuff. I've also run this as healer a few times since then. The first boss with the add and that one freakin' hill where you rescue the goblin from a few dragonflies are always either wipes or close calls.
Cooldowns can easily make the difference between a close call and a wipe, but that shouldn't be needed on every trash pull. I try to save those for big pulls or when the add comes in that first boss fight.
As other people mentioned, sleep works wonders as long as you don't have people waking up enemies with aoe.

If the tank is taking damage from behind they will get wrecked even with decent gear. They cannot block/parry from behind. It was probably a combination of poor gear choices and technique.
Lately I've been almost exclusively healing for my low level roulette for the lights. If I notice the tank eating damage from the back by positioning himself in the center of all the mobs I'll briefly point out he is taking more damage due to positioning and thank him/her when they adjust. It makes a huge difference.

I think Hakku Manor is where it starts to get punishing if you're underg geared, especially for tanks. The last boss adds hit crazy hard. I've seen those adds wreck ilvl110 tanks (ilvl sync)
happens when said tanks are in crafted NQ's and didnt get the good gear from haukke.I've been playing whm and havn't really had much trouble keeping tanks alive, but the other day when I ran brayflox normal for the 3rd time the tank we had hp droped very fast compaired to the others.
The tank ended up dying on the first set of mobs. I was outa range to heal for like 2 seconds before I could readjust he alrdy went down and I'm like umm ok.
We got to the first boss with the 2 adds, and he held the boss on the wrong side of the room from where they usually hold it. Again after several minutes of that fight he went down. I had to start constantly casting cure 2. Shortly after he died I ran completely outa mp.
or was it a pld without shield(rare and scary site at that level)
I've done Brayflox as Scholar, WHM, WAR, and PLD and I have to say it's a pain in the ass if you're not above synched level, especially as a tank. I had to say sorry to the healer because I took so much damage when I leveled my Paladin there through the main story, he had a hard time keeping me up even if I used all my cooldowns and had quite good gear. So don't feel bad if the group wiped.
Also I have to say that healing as a WHM is much more preferable than healing as a SCH... I cursed all the times especially on the last boss, who gave SE the idea to have this dungeon at lvl 30 when SCH get's the ability to dispel poisons at lvl 40.
IMO you should just spamming cure 2 like a boss in such case. Otherwise, ppl will say "the healer is not doing his job". regardless the situation. ^^;
