I understand what you're trying to say. You want to clearly just rename Gladiator into something else and do away with them. This change by itself will not fix those classes.I did read your post, but maybe didn't clearly understand what you're trying to put out there. what I want, personally, is to do away with the current jobs. if they're not going to get rid of the current jobs, I don't want to be stuck with the current jobs and "specialize" in something else while still having to retain the fact I am one of the base jobs. I don't know, I guess I'm not really saying what I want to say very well. But, personally I believe in yoshi-p's first idea.
I don't think the current classes should be removed since there's already some lame lore attached to them, but I do think that they should only serve as BASE classes. No max level gladiators, only advanced classes.
That would be currently improbable given the game is launched and he has declared he will not remove people's current ranks. There are already rank 50 Glad's.
If this change does happen then those 50 Gladiators would have all their talent points and will be able to play DRK or PLD by doing the quest.
No, I want paladin to be a job all to it's self instead of being a WoW-type tree of gladiator. I enjoyed the system of ffxi and I think it should be implemented again to some extent. having paladin and dark knight be jobs all to their own means I can switch between to the two easily, and level them up seperately depending on the type of style I want to play. I don't want to have to re-spec all the time depending on what my LS is doing. why not leave the jobs separate instead of being a "spec"?
