Actually now that I think about it, whether they'll change it through talents or advanced classes doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

What is most important is how the progression speed is handled. If there are jobs to level on top of classes, the grind should be cut in half at the very least, if not more since talents would contain more than one "job" within them for simply one leveling session.

Ultimately the difference is in the leveling speed. I think casuals would benefit more from the separate job-approach. Sure, they'll be leveling more jobs, but they'll do it fast.

EDIT: Unlike XI, each class would unlock two jobs. Further, you could only play on one job related to the class (when not in a town). But, you could play on other jobs that are unrelated to the current class. Once you pick a job, other jobs related to the class become unavailable and locked until you go to town.

To summarize, there are double as many jobs as there are classes, but you can only play with as many jobs at once as there are classes. Each class and job is leveled separately, with jobs beginning at rank 15 as opposed to rank 1 and are unlocked by getting your class from rank 1 to 30. Leveling speed is doubled.

This would also have the beneficial effect of keeping the low ranks more active as the game grows older even without many new players joining in.
