The fact that you're given many tools doesn't mean you're forced to use them all. I heard the opposite criticism in quite a lot of MMORPGs: "My healer is just a healbot! I want to be able to do something else!"
It's quite hard to balance the two point of views.
I am still agree that they are advance job, does not sound like an FF title, and that was one of the mistakes they made to make the game. bad, to put adavance job is that if you put (CON) to BLM is going to have Cure and BUFF job is not their own. why is one of the reasons he had proposed in my link, also after sting that job advance, which will happen to your rank? going to have a level 50 RDM? I want to start a RDM 1, to enjoy from their low levels the highest mast, watch them grow's my favorite job, or will lose that rank 50 to have?
Bienvenidos Hispanos a Hyperion !
Not sure I'm understanding what you're saying; so correct me if I'm wrong.
If you switch from WHM to RDM on CON you would still be the same level under this proposal. But SE could always just make you level it from whatever level the quest is (in my case its 20). One or the other has to be done.
I went over that in my third post in the OP.
You would in a sense be "enjoying RDM from 1" because the Advanced Class starts wherever the initial quest does.
So you are implying that the following scenario is correct..Not sure I'm understanding what you're saying; so correct me if I'm wrong.

-Level your glad to 'X' level (quest level, 20/30)
-Pick PLD, level to 50
-Make decision to play DRK instead
By going and completing the DRK quest, are you implying that your DRK would start at class rank 30? or is it at 50 and you are just assigning points?
Personally, I prefer the xi approach of having to physically level the new class. Just making sure I'm following your thought process.
I'm saying either way works. But in my particular example I kept the points restricted to the base class "Gladiator" and allowed you to go from 50 PLD to 50 DRK.So you are implying that the following scenario is correct..
-Level your glad to 'X' level (quest level, 20/30)
-Pick PLD, level to 50
-Make decision to play DRK instead

Purely conjecture and theory but:So you are implying that the following scenario is correct..

I think it would have you start at 20/30 drk, but with NO points in the DRK 'tree/spheregrid/licenseboard/abilitypool' (whatever you want to call it) You would be lvl 20/30 drk because you already have the experience of being a GLD and know how to fight. Your DRK or PLD specific powers would be a lvl 1 though. As you continue to level up, you will gain skill as a GLD and either as a PLD or DRK. So you could cap out GLD at 50, and PLD at (random average number let's say 10). If you wanted to go level DRK, you would still be a GLD 50 with all GLD skills available, but you would have to start at DRK 1, meaning no DRK bonuses. You could continue to level your DRK up to (random number 10) but would no longer receive exp for your capped GLD. Much like how the current physical/rank level system works.
Instead of physical level, it would be 'GLD level', and a separate rank level in for the 'advanced class' of PLD or DRK. Still 2 exp systems, but one that raises the 'base class' level, and one that raises the 'job' level.
Again, just adding conjecture to the thread, I am sure a rested Kaze will have a better response for you.

finally found my idea after reading from page 1 of the thread until now. Thank you. We know MONEY IS A REAL LIFE ISSUE! These well developed and "faithful" ideas are arousing but impossible to implement within time to save the project called FFXIV--(That would be free trial extension for an additional year). So Kuro and other lets change this thread to focus on how to take some of what is well established and build on it. And we all know to some extent that is what will take place. So a recap
-Get rid of physical levels and replace it with class levels
-DO NOT allow cross class trait/abilities
-But still require the job (specialty/title-"Dark Knight") be a certain rank to get full access to GLA higher traits/abilities.
Example drk1/gla50 would not have same access to GLA traits/abilities like drk40/gla 50.
-(advantage of fft) have spell/ability tiers that are transferable between jobs similar to FFXI.
Example 40whm can use some 20- job spells/ability.
... I got to go... I will finish post later

Removal of Cross Class skills would make a huge majority of the loyal player base jump ship.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I really like the idea of the advancement for 2 reasons:
1. With the current system we have, it would fit in well. The system we have now gives players a chance to get a feel for the general side of the job. Meaning they can see what aspects they like of that jobs and make a more educated choice as appose to jumping right into a job they thought they might enjoy.
2. It's something different from FFXI. I really liked the job system on FFXI but I was looking forward to something different in FFXIV short of just graphics. At first I loved the current system, and in some ways I still do. But job uniqueness is a big issue and I hope SE puts more effort into fixing it in upcoming updates as apose to making mobs bigger :X.
This issue is in my top 5 of what I would like to see fixed, but i don't see it happening too soon considering its not something that will make or break the game in the first year like other defects the game has. Or maybe it is? I anticipate some really nice changes altogether though before the ps3 release. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed this thread. I'm also interested in hearing how you all think the advancement system will work in terms of permanent job advancements? or will it be interchangeable?

It will be interchangeable. You can swap advancements, as you put it, at any time just as you can swap classes. You will just need to redistribute points. SE just has to not put a penalty on switching like stats is now. I think to fully change your stats at 50 it takes like 7 hours... Thats completely absurd. If I wanna go from tank to damage dealer on the same class or different class I will do it when I please.
