We all know that undead creatures exist (such as zombies and skeletons), but...

    ...isn't it weird that they're all Hyur-based?

Is there any lore explanation as to why we haven't seen/faced any undead creatures based on the other races? I mean they are all born, live and die just like the rest of mortal creatures, so why Hyur get the special undead treatment?

Because it'd be very interesting to face a zombie Roegadyn or a reanimated Lalafellin skeleton...

EDIT: And before you point it out, yes, I know Liavinne (who's an Elezen) counts as a non-Hyur zombie, but I meant for regular mobs out in the overworld and dungeons.

There aren't that many Lalafell enemies period.

I'm pretty sure that there's a quest where you fight reanimated Elezen in Mor Dhona. Not to mention that the main bosses and enemies in Haukke Manor are supposed to be Elezen as well. Other than that, there aren't THAT many areas that are populated with the undead (not counting skeletons since there's no telling what race that skeleton belonged to), and they probably wouldn't look all that special since they'd probably just make their skin grey/pale and turn their eyes white.

They got lalafell, Elezen, Roe and Hyur mob's on the first boss fight and they are all zombies.

IDK why there is a lack of Miqo zombie's though.

A lalafell sleleton would look too creepy if they were a hoard mob
I.e like the slugs in WP
Also their bones must be really soft/ baby like due to their aging and structure lol.
Meaning 1 good ol stomp will kill em ^^
Imagine issac from deadspace stomping on lalafell necromorphs.

They probs just wanted to reuse the skeleton template they already had = less work

Really? Because IIRC the minor zombies accompanying Zombie Liavinne looked more like Hyur ones, but ah well...

EDIT: Been re-analyzing some video footage on her fight, and you're right: there ARE Lala zombies there, as well as Mi'qote ones (no Roes in sight tho'...).

That's the realistic reason as to why there aren't, which I kinda figured already.
Still, it's fun to speculate on "lore" reasons as to why there aren't that many in-game, heh.

Well, lore wise hyur, specifically midlanders, are the most versatile which resulted in them being the most populace/seen in evey city state in eorzea. Even a hyur was a dragoon in Ishgard.

I vouch for this as Cannon due to the fact that the Dragoon questline teacher and quest giver was a Hyur Dragoon before his wounds made him retire. I cant remember though if he was a regular Dragoon or an Azure Dragoon.

There was also a Zombie Godbue as the first boss in the lost city of Adampor.

There was also an undead Dragon in the Labyrinth of the Ancients as the first boss as well.

Having a hard time remembering if there are other undead.

PS: Sorry that I posted variants of undead that arent PC races. I did it though as it pertained to the thread to some extension.

Okay, I think there miiight be an explanation for this.

During the War of the Magi, in order to fight against Amdapor (and whatever third nation was involved), Sil'dih revived their fallen soldiers so they could continue to fight on the battlefield. This eventually caused the destruction of their nation and I think even the coming of one of the Umbral eras. That IS the canon reason for why there are still zombies in Thanalan. The question is - are the zombies we can fight the exact same ones from Sil'dih, being centuries old? Or did someone (or the zombies themselves) create more zombies since then? Is some of the magic still there, just automatically reviving corpses?

As for why they're all Hyur, it could be because Sil'dih was around before Lalafell (or the other races) appeared. Or they just had Hyur in their standing military. Just like there's some debate over whether or not there were Elezen and Hyur living together in Amdapor at this time, I think the case is the same here.
