Story wise i can't really tell, i personally thought both stories weren't that interesting.
Paladins are the defensive tanks and are easier to play for their rotation is really simple compared to warrior. They also have a lot of skills which boosts your defense or reduces damage taken. Paladin is pretty much focused on lowering the damage taken, while warrior restores HP after they have taken a hit. Warriors are the offensive tanks, they can dish out a nice amount of damage but are harder to play in general. Some of their buffs and stuff are based on your damage done, (damage to HP etc). Both are useful, both are used in endgame raids so it doesn't really matter what you pick. I'd just go with whatever you like more. If you're going for warrior, you will still have to level your gladiator to level 22, cause provoke is a must.

I heard Paladin's were great for newbies...but I found WAR easier, I stressed myself out on my 1st Sastasha run...
WAR went better lol. Both are 15-17 so...I can't give you too much deets about em. I personally liked Warrior
    and they felt more fun.

...I only like how S. Oath's animations look for PLD lol.

In any case, get your GLA to 22, for Provoke. It's essential for endgame tanking regardless of which job you choose.

Ah, this has all been quite helpful so far! Thank you!

I do plan to get all classes to 50, so no worries about the cross class skills needed. And I had heard that it doesn't REALLY matter which class you go with for endgame, but some would tend to be more useful in certain situations.

I am new to tanking in general, I did try some guildheists with PLD to test it out, and I seemed to do okay there. But as others have said, WAR just seems like more fun to play. Plus I like the way my Highlander looks running around wielding that ax. lol

BCoB seemed to highlight the warrior as the go to tank and SCoB showcased the paladin as the hero. I think both tanks are fun. Warriors have great damage dealing abilities, a debuff rotation, and a self heal rotation. Paladins have 1 rotation, but can stun, pacify, silence, and have an ability to cleanse heavy, slow, and bind, and also prevent knockbacks. Both have cool animations and are demoralizing to their enemy in PVP. Both have DPS modes that make tankless content or content not requiring heavy damage mitigation fun. Warriors do a bit more damage in their dps mode, but I like soloing on paladin better because it gets out of heavy easily. Every frakking mob in Eorzea heavies us, it is really annoying, except to paladins, white mages and scholars.

Hm, they do both seem to have their advantages in their own ways. I know that I definitely need to get in there and test them out myself, but I was just curious as to others opinions. I like good conversation. /shrug

And, Bucy, ohmygod, I know what you mean about being stuck with heavy! My main right now is BRD, and it is quite annoying. I even try to evade the enemies but sometimes it's just going to happen.

Between the two tanks, heavy removal is where Paladin has the advantage. It has Tempered Will, which gets rid of it. So if you hate the affliction Heavy THAT MUCH, then I recommend PLD. PLD is also more versatile when it comes to delivering status afflictions, whereas WAR is overall more maim-y. WAR is also more combo heavy than PLD (you have like, two combos on PLD, and one you rarely use). But I think PLD has more of the tactical edge, being that it has Silence (Spirits Within), Stun (Shield Bash, but WAR also has this, except it's not on GCD), Pacification (Shield Swipe). Also, Hallowed Ground is loads of fun. Though I feel less involved as a PLD than WAR, I feel more strategic. After all, even in the days of Darklight, Paladins were capable of soloing bosses like Chimera (without anyone aiding in stunning/silencing). WAR, however, is easiest when controlling the hate on several mobs. PLD can keep hate, but it's a tad more difficult.

So much more easier after flash and circle got buffed, if you havn't tried it since patch you might wanna give it a go, I'd say AoE enmity now rivals that of WAR if not Surpasses.

Oh, no! I didn't think you were knocking PLD. Everyone seems to agree it is easier to play in general, but that WAR is just more fun. I think I will probably feel the same way, once I develop each one more. I just think as a newbie tank, it would probably be easier for me to start out with PLD.

I'm usually DPS because I don't generally like being the one to make or break the run. But I wanted to branch out. Some friends of mine may be joining soon too, and I figured it would be helpful to be something other than DPS and I wanted try out tanking more than I wanted to try out healing.

Both WAR and PLD's stun are good. I think Warrior's stun is better generally because MOST things you need to stun happen within 10-20 second intervals. But PLD's stun is superior for specific fights such as Leviathan EX and Dreadnaught's in T5.

My advice is, play both! I started as PLD and I leveled WAR eventually. They're both fun, but a little different. All the content in the game is doable with either tank.
