Yeah, chances are it won't be my main class. I'm trying to get a feel for all classes, see which one really calls to me, or something like that. So I will end up leveling them both. I'm looking forward to it now that I have a better idea of how they each ultimately work.

Thanks for all the comments too! I figured this would be ignored mostly.

Ever since FF on NES I have always favored the 'sword & board" types and ARR is no different. I have leveled both to 50 and it's killing me to say this, and all you PLDs out there you know what I mean, but WAR is more fun. I will admit that I have only tanked dungeons with my PLD though

Haha, thanks for your input as well! Dungeons tend to be how I level classes, and doing other things like hunting log/levequests while waiting. Then again, I'm used to DPS. Waiting time probably won't be so bad with a tank so I may have to rework how I do things a little bit...Hm...

If you're up for challenge, go for Warrior. Warrior got a lot of fight mechanics you can use than Paladin, way more.
Paladin is a simple straight-forward tank. You just need to click 1>2>3 and sometimes Shield Wipe or Riot Blade for mp which you might not need. That's all.

However, most of the end game fight prefer Paladin as MT because they got better damage mitigation and Hallowed Ground.

Remember, WAR gets their defensive/+Enmity stance right away at 30. PLD has to wait till 40 to get Shield Oath. This means that the 30-39 range for PLD suuuuucks because everyone has their jobs and high damage abilities and PLD will have a very hard time fighting for hate till 40.

I have both tank jobs at i110, and have Nexus on my WAR. I can easily say that WAR is more more fun and rewarding to play. PLD takes very little effort to play correctly.

If you're looking for a nice, solid, easy tank job, then play PLD. If you enjoy tank jobs that require more than popping a few CDs every now and then, play WAR.
Having level up both Tank Job, I find that War is more fun to play then Paladin. Also for Tanking Dungeon and large pull I find War is a lot easier and less stressful because of Overpower. Paladin you have to flash, flash, scorn, fast blade, savage blade to get MP back, rotate between mob, etc.

They both served their purpose. For Boss Tanking, Paladin will shine, for Dungeon and large pull War make it quick and easy. Not to say that War can tank boss well too, but Paladin is more safe especially in 2nd Coil Turn 8 where you single tank and boss and dread hit like a truck.

Yeah, this would be what I've heard mostly, or seen up in the PF. I am leaning more towards WAR being my favored tank class, but I'm still going to level PLD first just because I really am a newbie when it comes to tanking. I've seen it done plenty of times and I get the gist, but actually tanking is a bit of a different story.

Oh, that is a good point as well! That's something I was fairly worried about, so that's good to know too!

I noticed that about trying to keep/get aggro with PLD while doing some low level guildheists. Then again, I didn't have a whole lot of skills at the time, so I figured eventually it would be easier. Or I would get used to it. Thank you for your opinions too!

I have both and have ran both extensively. My personal preference is paladin. However, this is about which might work for you.

Truth be told Paladin doesn't really get "good" until level 40 when you get Shield Oath. Why it wasn't 30 at unlock is beyond me, still, paladin mitigation is off the charts if you do it right. But it suffers from an lack of dps even in Sword Oath. They do have benefit of being more TP efficient if you weave Circle of Scorn, Spirits Within and Flash into the mix. Plus cross class from conjurer is useful solo.

Warrior is essentially everything paladin isn't. Their mitigation isn't great but useful in a pinch one being reliant on five stacks of wrath the other is the last skill of a combo. Dps, even in Defiance, is greater than paladin's for certain. Health is higher but that is sort of its own kind of mitigation. Cross class is lack luster at best save for a couple of gladiator abilities you need (flash and provoke). They eat TP like candy.

As far as aggro gaining and maintaining Warrior has the easier time of it especially where multiples are concerned. But you'll burn through an ungodly amount of TP to hold it. Paladins are great at single target. Bosses are a great example of this because they can hold out in a pinch due to their mitigation to give healers a quick break to heal party. A lot of their issue with multiple target aggro is that their only true multi target gainer is flash where warriors get flash (if cross classed) steel cyclone and overpower. Unless you are spamming the crap out of flash at the end of your rage of halone combos on top of circle of scorn every time its up you'll pull your hair out trying to keep it off of the party especially if you have black mages.

Story is best left for you to decide. Ultimately I'd say level them both and get a feel of them. Then pick what suits you and your play style.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
