    WAR or PLD?

Hello, everyone. I was just considering leveling up a tanking class and I wanted to get other peoples opinions on all aspects of these two options: story, play style, usefulness, etc. Whatever makes it your favorite over the other. I'm looking for some friendly conversation here, not just "MY CLASS IS THE BEST AND YOURS IS STUPID JUST BECAUSE." Let's be civil here, or at least try.

I've leveled up both to 15 and I do like running around with a giant ax wrecking my foe's day up, but I also like the story behind the PLD more than WAR. So far. Can't comment on play styles or end game usefulness, obviously.

So, do you prefer WAR of PLD?

    Warrior benefits:
    25% more health
    20% more healing taken
10% less damage done by enemies
Increased slashing damage taken by enemies
    Better DPS
    Stun off GC with cooldown

    Paladin benefits:
    20% less damage taken
    Random shield block mitigation
    Better cooldowns
    5% less strength on enemies
    Stun without cooldown on GCD

Every single encounter in the game is doable with any tank combination pretty much. If there's only one tank, I prefer warrior over paladin because of 10% less damage done by the enemy.

Certain moments in the game lend themselves MUCH better to Hallowed Ground over Holmgang.

Warrior has more engaging play, in my opinion.

Active tank, most of the abilities and CD work without you worrying about anything. If you want ease, go paladin.

Reactive tank, depending on what/and how much is hitting you, you need to pop and do certain abilities to survive and mitigate damage. If you want fun and slightly, just slightly more challenging tank, go warrior.

I don't want to spoil the story for you on either so can't comment on those since you are only level 15 on both.

Story wise i can't really tell, i personally thought both stories weren't that interesting.
Paladins are the defensive tanks and are easier to play for their rotation is really simple compared to warrior. They also have a lot of skills which boosts your defense or reduces damage taken. Paladin is pretty much focused on lowering the damage taken, while warrior restores HP after they have taken a hit. Warriors are the offensive tanks, they can dish out a nice amount of damage but are harder to play in general. Some of their buffs and stuff are based on your damage done, (damage to HP etc). Both are useful, both are used in endgame raids so it doesn't really matter what you pick. I'd just go with whatever you like more. If you're going for warrior, you will still have to level your gladiator to level 22, cause provoke is a must.

I heard Paladin's were great for newbies...but I found WAR easier, I stressed myself out on my 1st Sastasha run...
WAR went better lol. Both are 15-17 so...I can't give you too much deets about em. I personally liked Warrior
    and they felt more fun.

...I only like how S. Oath's animations look for PLD lol.

In any case, get your GLA to 22, for Provoke. It's essential for endgame tanking regardless of which job you choose.

Ah, this has all been quite helpful so far! Thank you!

I do plan to get all classes to 50, so no worries about the cross class skills needed. And I had heard that it doesn't REALLY matter which class you go with for endgame, but some would tend to be more useful in certain situations.

I am new to tanking in general, I did try some guildheists with PLD to test it out, and I seemed to do okay there. But as others have said, WAR just seems like more fun to play. Plus I like the way my Highlander looks running around wielding that ax. lol

Shield Bash is on GCD isn't it? What stun is not on GCD?

BCoB seemed to highlight the warrior as the go to tank and SCoB showcased the paladin as the hero. I think both tanks are fun. Warriors have great damage dealing abilities, a debuff rotation, and a self heal rotation. Paladins have 1 rotation, but can stun, pacify, silence, and have an ability to cleanse heavy, slow, and bind, and also prevent knockbacks. Both have cool animations and are demoralizing to their enemy in PVP. Both have DPS modes that make tankless content or content not requiring heavy damage mitigation fun. Warriors do a bit more damage in their dps mode, but I like soloing on paladin better because it gets out of heavy easily. Every frakking mob in Eorzea heavies us, it is really annoying, except to paladins, white mages and scholars.

Dragoon has a stun that is off of GCD. It doesn't last as long as a tank stun. Being off of GCD only means it is instant cast, but it has it's own longer CD.
