The topic of this thread is misleading, when someone says new player I picture the person running around with a green leaf on them. This person is not new to the game, don't they have to have gone through the story mode dungeons to be able to unlock hard mode? They would have atleast picked up a little bit along the way to see how tanking works. I don't play as a healer but I see what they are doing.

If I was going to start healing and managed to guy my guy up to iLvl 90 I sure wouldn't start on hard mode dungeons to learn how to play it.

I stopped queuing in the DF as a tank because of idiotic people, especially the "I rush ahead and get my face full" and "look at my DPSSSSSSWAAAAAHHHTANKHALP!!" types. I only tank for a static group now and I doubt I'll ever queue as a tank again. It's simply NOT worth the hassle.

As for healing? Those classes are "Forever 15" on my chars...

So does the dps with i110 gear which don't understand they are not the tank and should not have aggro, if they do have it, hold back a bit or use abilities to reduce aggro.

    Nope

By lvl 50 you should be well versed in how to tank. If you want to fate farm your way to 50 you're going to get a crash course and have to deal with a lot of rage which is no ones fault but your own.

If you didn't learn your job by using fates, hunting logs and leves instead of your insta-queue tank dungeons (which are better exp by far anyway) don't expect a df group to coddle you, instead get some fc members together and learn your rotations and abilities that way.

I am more than happy to give tips about a particular dungeon to someone who has never been before. Like the tank I walked through AK last week since it was his first time through. I covered tactics and which mobs to skip but he knew how to play his job and it was all good.

Just like in life don't come to a job unprepared and under skilled. You are not going to get a trophy just for showing up.

WAR is a lot easier to hold threat against people who out gear you when there is multiple targets, overpower spam FTW! That being said I find PLD better for single target. Tanking at 50 is also quite different than tanking while levelling, especially when new to a dungeon and unsure of mob mechanics.

I agree 1000% with trying to take it easy on newer players, communication and decency can go a long way.

As a DPS, I observe what my fellow party members can do. (And since I'm currently leveling up Bard, even more so.) If I notice that the tank had difficulty with me going pants-on-head crazy with Flares and AOEs, then I hold back. If the tank and healer can handle it, then I'm like "KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONESKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!" Better safe than sorry, after all.

Maybe new to tanking higher level dungeons. Normally in low level dungeons there isn't any AOE blasting going on.

I think that's what everyone should do, observe the party! Not just tunnel vision and be like I'm DPS so I'll just DPS regardless what happens, or I'm a healer so I'll just keep healing and healing, or I'm a tank so I'll just tank the mob blindly.

Got a giggle out of the Kilroy. But that's generally what I do. I access the situation first couple of groups of mobs and if unless they say they want speed run or not if their action go one way or the other I act accordingly. I don't go out of my way to be impetuous.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

... I didn't know people still level up using fates. Considering dungeons give more exp points now.
And yeah, ilvl90 gears are too easy to get.
They could have saved myths and get them or greed in coil parties or something. (Haven't seen those in forever)

Even if the PLD isn't new to tanking, no amount of Flash can hold aggro long enough until he lose it.
(I know because sometimes I purposely made my friend lose his. :P Triple flare.)
WAR is better in terms of multiple mobs (overpower and steel cyclone).

There are a lot of douches in this game, and in this example it was the DDs, but more often I find the tanks being the real douches (mainly because they know they are more demanded and their queues are shorter and I suppose they somehow feel special). In my last Titan HM both tanks (one of them being almost full high allagan and the other one around i105) stood in front of Titan the entire fight. They were basically both on shield oath and competed for aggro the entire match, which meant 2 tanks getting rock bustered and mountain bustered every time. It was a clear example of the level of stupidity of some people. Problems healing them? Wouldn't have had any, but basically I refused to heal them, I don't like having to do extra work because someone is being voluntarily dumb. They were lucky the other WHM was a good guy and put up with their douche attitude.
