Did not receive Recruit a Friend bonuses

My friend and I did not get our bonuses.

I sent him the email and used the code, then bought the game.

Yesterday, he added 2 months of game time to his account with a game card and we did not receive our bonuses. Upon further inspection, it seems that our accounts are not linked at all.

I contacted support through email, and they told me that I had to do live chat to correct this issue, and when I did that he said that they could not correct this issue because he already bought the game.

At the moment, there is no notification if you have properly recruited a friend or not. Since this is an action required by both players, either one can make a mistake and no one would know. The only way which you can see if you have properly done it is if you log into the Mog Station and see if there is a message beside your subscription status. I did check the recruit a friend service tab when I sent the code and once again when he bought the game, but I didn't find anything there. Like I said, the only way to see if you have properly done it is if you see a little note beside your subscription status. The only reason why I know this is because I looked through the FAQ.

But even then, as soon as he bought the game and added it to his account, apparently it was too late, according to the support desk. So, you have to send the email, your friend uses it, you have to check your subscription status, then they have to purchase the game. If they purchase the game before you can tell them, "No, I didn't get the note.", it's too late.

Just wondering if anyone can fix this issue, at all.. Before I get flamed, I only started this thread because this is what the support live chat guy told me to do when he told me he, himself, did not have the tools to fix it.

    I have the same issue.

My partner registered after the referral was sent to him. Once he got into the account, we checked out "Mog Station", and the only part I saw about entering a code was the Enter Bonus Code link which was clearly not the right place to enter it seeing as how it was ~5 boxes long. Anyway, since he was able to play the trial I assumed maybe the link had an embedded code for tracking the fact that I referred him or something of that sort and did not think anything of it. I was also not aware at the time that the trial was openly available to anyone with hands and a pulse.

Now that I have purchased the game for him and paid for his first month I am pretty pissed that we somehow missed a box to put the code into somewhere within the convoluted Mog Station website. I intend on chatting into support on Tuesday to see if they can do anything. Hopefully they had the foresight to have made a tool for the support team to manually create a friend recruitment connection between accounts.

It blows my mind that even the most simplest of features becomes such a hassle and inconvenience to use when it comes to Square Enix. For example, the PayPal option suddenly going missing without any notice whatsoever. I'm not even sure why this had to be done through a third party in the first place? Businesses can easily make their own PayPal and not cause players to get sketched out by these shady ass third-parties. Another example is the fact that I have not been able to change my security question on my own account for years. In order to do so, I need to know the answer to my current question even though I am already logged into the site and can already wreak complete and utter havoc from deleting characters to cancelling my service account -- but changing the security question? I don't think so, buddy!

It gets tiring dealing with their broken systems. Sorry for going off in this thread, I just needed to rant a bit, and I'm dreading their "resolution" to my problem come Tuesday. Ugh.

They announced the ending of UltimatePay almost 4 months ago and have added a bunch of payment methods since. In any case, there's nothing convoluted about the Friend Codes. A current active account will have the Recruit a Friend button on the account page which both of you found okay to generate the email. A new person registering on the MogStation will have an "Enter Friend Code" button in place of the Recruit a Friend Button. The one issue is that despite The Lodestone stating that accounts within the 30 free days were eligible to be recruited, people were reporting that the opposite is true and that any form of active account could not be recruited. Excluding active subs makes sense as it ensures that the campaign is only generating "new" accounts and not a bunch of active players "Friending" each other. The fix for this is to allow your friend's account to lapse at the end of the month. If the account goes inactive it becomes eligible for recruitment again and you can redo the code.
