A plea to SE about future raids.

Please set fights up to always require two tanks. Eliminate the possibility of solo-tank methods altogether. Solo-tanking certain encounters, while duo-tanking other makes building a static near impossible.

As it currently stands, bringing two tanks for T6 and T7 is your best bet, but bringing one tank for T8 and T9 is your best bet. This means that an 8-man static must find a person that can play a tank role half of the time, and a DPS the other half. As someone who plays solely tank jobs, this is a huge issue. With most groups only needing a single tank for an entire static, finding a full-time tank spot is all but impossible.

Please SE, solidify the need for 2 tanks in future encounters.

Or, better yet, maybe more than one difficult raid every 6 months?

Players are going to take the path of least resistance. If going single-tank is the easiest way to beat an encounter, than that's how people are going to do it.

Yes but if it's a static group it shouldn't be a problem running two tanks. Unless of course you lack so much dps you need 5.

Honestly, in a game like this (with the ability to switch roles and gear/level everything) you should have two roles able to play, if not all three (four if you split mDPS and rDPS).

At the very least, this allows flexibility (like with solo tanking or healing parties) or you can join if the slots for your role are full.

I also feel playing multiple roles allows you to be better at your primary role; for example, many tanks have no idea what melee positionals are and why they need to keep mobs/bosses still, but after playing a melee they (should) understand it.

Now, SE is trying to keep both tanks occupied; so far the only thing that generally works is tank swapping...and to have that every fight can be...boring. So they do try to mix it up (hard hitting adds, high-damage mechanics, etc) but even then those don't always get players to push for two tanks. However, even tank swapping doesn't always do it (I've solo tanked Titan EX several times, and know its possible to solo-tank Ramuh EX with 3 heals. I've also heard of solo tank/heal T6, and solo tank T7. Does it normally require overgearing or a strategy change? Yes. So there is that). Raven's Blight in T9 is supposed to be a tank swap mechanic...as is Infirmary (Death Sentence debuff) in T5. T8 the OT is supposed to be grabbing the Dreads and dealing with mines (otherwise Field wouldn't ignore #2 in aggro, AKA the OT) and probably Brainjack/Homing as well.

Fact is, tanks are in short supply. So players are always trying to lessen the need for them. Is that a good thing? IMO, not really.

It's not really a matter of it being a problem. It's the fact that most groups simply refuse to bring two tanks for those fights. When's the last time you saw a group duo-tank T8?

My group runs duo tank, we have a few reasons for this, 1) We have 2 melees pushing high DPS so no reason for 1 more, 2)Things happen, having a second tank makes recovering a run much safer and easier,3) We have a second tank so why not use him as a tank?Content is designed for 2 tanks after all as things are and I personally could care less for the path of least resistance. I'm probably the wrong person to ask with that in mind.

I'm ok with being able to bring one or two tanks to certain fights but the the issue is it takes months to be able to gear a second job with the current system. There's no reason to be able to play n9 jobs when you ca only gear 2-3 tops in a 6 month period. Why do you think so many people play alts? Maybe this is intentional so more people will pay for character slots?
