I think a part of the hype is Ninja is likely the closest thing were going to see to a Thief class in the game, which many, myself included have wanted to play since the game's launch.

Thief would've been so much cooler as a job. A steal skill would've been awesome to get rare mats from certain mobs.

I can see there'll be bad ninjas for a good bit. If we have to memorize the mudra combination and what they do then I can already see people slipping in the heat of the moment

You may be surprised to learn that the Naruto manga/anime did not actually invent the concept of ninjas. They have been a thing for a while now. Believe it or not, there are, in fact, many people who do not think of Naruto at all when they see a ninja.

What? I don't think he's suggesting that at all. The concept of Ninjas have been around as part of popular culture for a long time, that's true. Older gamers and players who grew up with the likes of Shinobi and Ryu Hayabusa are unlikely to give Naruto a second thought when thinking about Ninja, but people (especially younger generations) who don't know any better will no doubt assume that FFXIV's Ninja is a ripoff of Naruto or otherwise compare them. It's not really a problem, but it's a reality.

Kind of how dumbasses thought the new Panda race in The-Game-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named were a ripoff of Kung-fu Panda even though said Panda race predated the movie.

It was a race based on an april fools joke that somehow got a full birth in a game with no Asian influences at that time.
