So after returning to the game I am LOVING hunts.. especially S Ranks, it seems to be one of the only parts of the game there is no exact science to and its shrouded in mystery, misconception and theories.. we need more of that!
I am surprised that with how long hunts have been out people still argue and bitch at eachother about how to actually pop an S Rank and some of the methods are really funny. So I thought I would make a thread to have everyone share what's worked for them and what hasn't.
Safat - Coerthas
This was my first S Rank and I managed to (if the theory is correct) singlehandedly pop him as I was the only one at the time attempting to pop him.
Theory:
Jump off a ledge so that you get 1HP remaining, an efficient way of doing this is at the Witches Drop.
Question: do you have to drop from FULL HP to 1HP or can it be from half? if half is okay you can run half way up the slope and jump off to 1HP meaning you can fit 3 jumps in the time it takes to do 1 normally
Garlok - Eastern La Noscea
Theory 1:
Shoot Flaming Arrow into a cave
Theory 2:
He appears after a heavy rain
This is the one I have seen the most argument on with people quoting BG forums that the Flaming Arrow method 100% does not work. Thoughts?
Nandi - Upper La Noscea
Theory 1:
Walk along the stone path while having a minion and/or a chocobo summoned
Theory 2:
Walk along the stone path while using minion roulette
Theory 3 and 4:
As above but you don't need to be walking
Theory 5:
As above but you don't need to be on the stone path
This one is the funniest, seeing 100 people walking on the stone path.. has anyone had real success with this? I was in a group that was walking for about an hour.. then an hour after we stopped he popped right outside the aetheryte village.
Minhocao - Northern Thanalan
Theory 1:
Take part in the "Core Blimey" FATE but DO NOT allow it to finish, ie. do not hand in cores
Theory 2:
Take part in the "Core Blimey" FATE and let it finish regardless of how many Cores were collected
Theory 3:
Keep the FATE running until he pops (meaning that people who need the FATE can actually finish it once he has popped)
Theory 4:
Collect an unspecified number of cores between everyone.
I and a great group of people popped this S Rank the other night on Ragnarok using Theory 1 (later updated to Theory 3) before I heard of the SE comment about it not being related to "not turning in" I can confirm that when he popped for us, there were about 3 parties taking part in the FATE, we didn't turn in (except one person who was asked, politely, to not turn in) and he popped up where gogomeira pops 7 minutes into the FATE. But we couldn't really tell if that had ANYTHING to do with us not turning in, he could simply spawn as a reaction to the FATE itself or the number of people taking part in the FATE etc.

Well that's all the ones I have taken part in so far.. feel free to add to or shoot down the theories (in a polite constructive manner :P)
