That way, you can use a simple chronometer and check if you can get dps improvement with alternative rotation or equipment.
It's not my best suggestion but i dont think it's hard to do and it could be useful.
How do you measure sustained damage? Which job? Dummies are there for people who actually care about this stuff and if you did you'd know that every DPS job except for monk has massive spikes in their damage output, usually at the beginning, and sustained is just how it averages out and is not an indicator of how much you are doing at any point in time.

Not only that but for all of the jobs except for BLM their sustained doesn't last 5 minutes because of resource issues. In a real encounter they sustain for longer because jumps and mechanics give them downtime, and you have paeon, against a dummy you can only get an idea of your sustained by attacking until you run out, which is well before 5 minutes. Why not just have dummies tell you how much damage you're doing? It's so simple.
