Supposedly it really does make a difference... Even when I send my poorly geared 50 GLA on quick ventures, it tells me I could get better stuff with better gear.

I don't thing things like melds do anything for the... Just ilvl... But I could be wrong

DOLs have a Gathering-level requirement, not iLvl. That takes some melding, and mine have forager's gear as well.

If this is governed by RNG, and a pure one, then I got a bad news for you: It doesn't matter. ^^;

Gave them the bare minimum requirement of the highest venture, and cross your fingers. lol

I guess mine are special, barely at level 10 she brought me a lv4 materia that sold for 70k

And now and then I get an item that can sell for 20 to 60k.

Mine keeps bringing me back furniture and I'm too poor to afford housing, I think he's mocking me...

I can just imagine my retainer running around peoples personal housing stealing their wardrobes, floor tiles and desks.

My poorly geared BTN retainer has brought me an Inferno Horn on a quick venture before. I think it's mostly luck/RNG. But the higher gear does make them able to bring back better items supposedly.

Better gear improves the chances of getting something good from Quick Ventures - but your odds of actually seeing anything awesome are still pretty darned low. I don't think I've even come close to breaking even on what it cost to deck out my DoL retainers.
