Character Name Change

im not sure where to put this, but i want to change my character's name.
if i cant, do i just need to make a new character?
i have fantasia if that makes a difference.

Fantasia only lets you change appearance. Unfortunately you do need to start a new character.

There's a loophole where if you transfer your character to a new server, and there is already a character with the same name, you will be asked to change your name.

The trick is to transfer your character out, create a character with the same name, and transfer your character back in. Since names are unique in the game, you will be asked to change the name of your character to one that is NOT taken. You can change the name anytime you transfer servers, so long as the name you currently have is already taken.

There's a catch though. You will have to wait 1 month between transfers, so your transferred character will be stuck on the new server for at least one month. Additionally, each transfer will cost you $18, for a total of $36. It's a steep price, but if you don't have any attachment to your server or are already planning to transfer, just create a char with the same name and transfer to that. You'll be able to change it, and delete the old name.

Server Transfer services btw, are available on the Mog Station. Please don't forget to create a character with the same name on the server first too. I've known a couple players who tried this and forgot to create a character with the same name, wasting $36.

I thought you only have to wait 3-5 days. I have a few friends who did that and they were back in a matter of days.

Or, pick a new server, create a new character with the same name as your current one. Transfer, creating a name conflict. Change your current characters name and then delete the new character. You only need to transfer one time then. World transfer isn't all that cheap...

Yeah, they originally required a month between transfers, but shortened that a while back.

One other thing that may be a consideration for some people: Doing it by yourself requires a "Standard" subscription (the sort that allows you up to eight characters per server). If you've dropped down to the "Basic" subscription tier that only allows you one character per server, you won't be able to transfer to a world where you already have another active character. In that case, you'll need a friend to set up that temporary alt with which to create the name conflict.

If anyone here would like a name change service, please post in here! I've been trying to bring this back a bit because I would REALLY love to change my name but I'm not willing to go through a world transfer. Yet, at least. Anyway, hoping for an updated reply from a dev!
