Minimal ilvl for entry should be between i95 and i100 (if no one can reach that, then get to spamming 2.1-2.3 dungeons or ST) and the loot that drops should be around i105 and be accuracy based. This way, it's minor progression towards Second Coil and maybe Third Coil, in case the gear you have doesn't help you meet the accuracy cap for it.

Also it should be a fun challenge for people in i100-110 gear. It won't be Coil difficult (so no 1 KO = everyone KO's), but it should require BLM's or WHM's to make use of their dusty Sleep/Repose spells, amongst other things.

Forgot to add: NO CRAFTING MATS. Just make them cheap to buy with Soldiery or something, or if you do plan on making them drop in dungeons, make them drop from the Potion chests and not boss chests.

I used to use Repose all the time, but people would just spam AOEs, so there's no point to causing Sleep on trash mobs anymore.

Don't forget that the minimum ilvl requirement is for players who know how to play the job (and don't have a problem with doing the dungeon lightly undergeared). Average ilevel can be ilevel 95, while the minimum ilevel should be around ilevel 80.

Sorry, but I can't agree. I get that some people want to be lightly geared for a dungeon, but that is why I suggested i95 (with Soldiery no longer having a cap, it will be an incredibly easy for players to reach that ilvl). It also means SE can not have a reason to make the dungeons drop i90 gear, but instead i105 gear. It's slightly higher than Soldiery gear, so it feels like a reward outside of "just here for tomes" and it's ranked below High Allagan, but can be used to get it (in case the Unweathered gear doesn't give you the accuracy boost you need).

So yeah. No Soldiery cap = easier to hit i95. i105 rewards means something to gear your alts with while at the same time gearing them with Soldiery. Could even add a mini-quest challenge: "Kill X amount of Monsters before {Final Boss}" could reward you with a UAT or Sands/Oils of Time, giving even more reason to do the dungeons (and not compete against other player rolls in ST or spam Hunts).

Toodles, I suggest putting what you posted onto your opening post as well.

I agree with Nestama here. I remember when freshly hitting fiddy you went to AK. If you couldn't get past the wall then you needed to beef up with either crafted gear or WP runs. And man if you couldn't get past the second boss in WP well, then...crafted gear might be the only option at that point.

Point is, there were progression checks. There don't seem to be many if any of those now duty wise. I also feel we need to have this back. If you don't meet the iLVL req for the duty, run the other stuff to get tomes to upgrade etc. Only thing that would stink about this is that currently the "other stuff" drops so many damn mats that it would make it terribad to rely on that as an upgrade option, so some fixes would need to be performed.

Needs to be tuned for "Casual content"? Don't all the casual players have full i110 now thanks to ST?

If all the new 4mans drop i90 and are tuned for i90 they will be dead farm content on arrival. Not even the most casual of players I've met even cared about the drops in the i80 dungeons. They were too busy hunting and running ST.

*Every* player wants meaningful progression, casual or hardcore alike. It's what keeps them engaged in the game even after they've finished content for the first time. Content like this that's tuned for and drops gear below the even pitifully easily acquirable tomestone items caters to no one.

To be honest, while new viable dungeon sets would be fantastic for alts, all I really want to see is some varied glamour sets come out of these. Mostly I'm just borderline irritated that my BRD main is boxed into looking like either a pirate or a travelling circus threw up on me.

So I've been thinking (and posted it on the XIV subreddit. Going to fix it up, though)
    • 2.1 dungeons rewarded players with i60 gear, which used to drop from Amdapor Keep. There was also Labyrinth of the Ancients, which dropped i80 gear. Why couldn't the 2.1 dungeons drop i75 gear? Philosophy was going to become irrelevant next patch and getting new ilvl75 gear would have kept Pharos Sirius from getting the unfortunate nerf. Since people would actually have felt rewarded for the challenge.
    • 2.2 dungeons rewarded players with i70 gear, one set being Darklight. It also loved to drop crafting materials for whatever reason. 2.2 also removed the Mythology cap, which allowed us to easily gear up our mains and alts in Myth gear, as well as gear up our mains in i100 weathered gear. It also 'raised' the ilvl cap from 90 to 110. Why couldn't the 2.2 dungeons drop i85 gear? Philosophy no longer existed and the cap was removed from LotA. As said, the Myth cap was removed, which made i90 gear incredibly easier to get, but getting i85 gear would still have been alright. Most players were still stuck on Turn 5, after all.
    • 2.3 dungeons rewarded players with i80 gear, with crafting materials being the most frequent drop. At this point, i80 gear for most players was seen as either Glamour or FC seals. As players had already spent their Myth tomes gearing their alts in i90 Mythology gear. SE should have made those dungeons drop i95 gear, slightly higher than both Myth and First Coil gear, but lower than ST and Soldiery gear. Wouldn't be BiS, but could have still been used for Second Coil.

I'm assuming the loot lock on ST will be removed for 2.4?

yupp, I'll be farming St for UAT, sands and oils. Also any gear that can desynthesis by leather workers just in case they decided to make them an item for future desynthesis
