I don't think they need to change the classes per say just make boss mobs punish ranged attackers from time to time with move that only can hit people who are far this would involve ranged melee and caster's more in the battles.
thats not the solution, i think in a perfect world the solution would be to give identities to each class that they have their own mechanics and game play.Sure we have it now but is nearly not enough , think how different is a gladi to an archer , well i would like to have the same individuality but all around jobs.

Pug could have their stances that never happened ,

Mrd could build a "rage" bar by standing still then 1 blow = hell.

lancer could have mobility as a weapon(idk how to introduce this)

etc etc etc.

This is my invision of what ffxiv jobs should had been. Then added into that you could mix/match skills, but jobs could still keep the individuality.

How could this help the topic at hand , no idea. i think pidgeon holing(or whatever is called) is a problem with all mmos all together.
