What's the point of fishing?

Genuine question here. I'm currently leveling it up just to relax a bit after grinding pld, brd and sch to 50 and then grinding even more for some gear, but if there's a point to fishing other than just for fun I'd still like to know!

I plan on leveling it up to 50 either way, but if there isn't much in terms of profit I might level another craft on the side as my gil maker.

Well it's mostly for its own sake, really. There are some fish you can cook with and various achievements as well as some items exclusive to CUL desynth. I think that's about the extent of it. There's very little synergy with other classes.

some very rare fish can be desynth to some really expensive vanity gears (about 2-5m per piece, but depends on server)

guess thats all about fishing, no titles or rewards available for catching them all

Big fishing has come out since that was posted, and a lot of big fish are worth a fair bit due to people buying them to desynth.

Whoa, is it really that low!?

I've only caught maybe a dozen different ones so far, and 8 or 9 sold for over 20k. I guess I just got lucky in which ones I decided to chase.

20k isnt really a lot for a big fish if you compare time investment and money earned
