Oh yeah, but I was just wondering if Giant Takitaro requires Clear/Fair > Thunder transition, or just Thunder without the weather change?

Just thunder/thunderstorm is fine for Giant Takitaro.
Why is this a thing? This fish isn't hard enough to catch? Because I havent spent 20+ hours over the last 3 weeks trying to catch the 1 remaining fish I'm missing? 24 NQ Mahars before even getting a double mooch and now this... Who designed some of these fish. Fuck you Square Enix.
I'm not looking forward to that, kinda wanna leave it for last lol.
I caught 2 Nepto Dragons today, surprisingly easy to catch. Still trying for that Namitaro though, I can't seem to land a Takitaro lately.
My first Shoni got away as well and for about an hour I seriously thought about quitting the game for a bit until my rage subsided. I know it sucks but try switching your stats so you're on the 384g/321+p set up and you might have more luck. Since using this set up on my fisher for Shoni I've caught 2 now compared to 0 HQ mahar after 6 days of camping every single window.

It is just me or is Rain > Fog/Clouds a rare weather change in the East Shroud? I've been keeping an eye on it for the last week or so and ive only been able to catch one window.
But yay! Ndendecki makes 94,
Magicked Mushroom? Its window has been open a few times this week (there was one today, in fact) but it certainly feels rare. Actually getting it to bite seems to be a different story altogether.
has anyone figured out what specific fish needed per zone exactly for each stage of the quest?
I only see people naming all the new fish per zone.
1) Wawalago certainly has a way with words, though which way that is, not even the Navigator can say. Console yourself by catching the living legends sighted in La Noscea, the Black Shroud, and Thanalan, and present them to Wawalago at Fisherman's Bottom on the lower decks of Limsa Lominsa.
2) You have delivered the living legends to Wawalago. Even as the guildmaster heaps praise upon you, a puller arrives with alarming news that the ordinarily fertile Rhotano Sea has ceased to yield its bounty. Wawalago suspects that the currents may be to blame, and pledges to have Sisipu look into the matter. Meanwhile, he urges you to continue your hunt for living legends. Make your way to Coerthas and Mor Dhona, and deliver the creatures you capture to Wawalago.
3) Too many legends spoil everything, according to Ascelyn. The scholar arrives with news that the fisheries along the Rhotano seaboard face extinction unless the Nepto Dragon is removed from circulation. Like many monsters, it currently resides in Costa del Sol. Go there and speak with the steersman.
You come to a quick understanding with the steersman. His boat will take you to the Rhotano privateer, where your destiny awaits in the form of a giant fish. If you should catch this Nepto Dragon, the saltworn captain is keen to take a measure of the fish...and you.
You have killed a legend to save the local economy; such is the trade-off in these calamitous times. Your erstwhile opponent now lies limply on deck, awaiting Ascelyn's delicate knives. It occurs to you that Wawalago may share your sense of loss, and so seek him out him you shall.
Wawalago's sense of loss has less to do with mystique and more to do with meunière. However, his regard for you is sincere and robust, and a day of hard fishing has left you famished. Not all legends endure, but they sure are tasty, especially when paired with a chilled lowland white.
Endoceras, Namitaro and Helicoprion -> Kuno the Killer and Shonisaurus -> Nepto Dragon.

All evidence points to a minimum 321 perception rating for an HQ Mahar. No one who has caught a Shonisaurus had anything less than 321 perception in all the screenshots and reports posted here or elsewhere on the web.
I wager Shonisaurus is a formidable perception check like Nepto Dragon for gathering. That said, if you have insufficient perception, spare yourself the anxiety of trying to land an HQ Mahar--unless you're stocking up on desynth fodder, that is.
