Never had issues till we pugged the one bard who complained about it. But been trying the Brainjack distance pulls, though it's a fine line between being infront and behind the Avatar when your trying to get the dread. Though generally the Boss ain't really doing any mechanics during dread spawns. Anyhow. sadly it's the other mechanics I have no control over that usually cause my turn 8 problems.

If you´re Healers know what theyre doing, then pulling the Dreads with a simple Provoke/Shield Lob is enough without you moving at all. My Group is standing between the Avatar and the Dread-Tower,so he is heading straight for me and stops inside the Boss. My Brainjack-Victim is slightly behind those two,so neither is moving an Inch during the Braindead-Phase (the best Spot for pulling the Dread on top of the Avatar is on the Red Target Circle around the Boss, for me anyway)

As i said,it largely depends on the Healers and your CD-usage during those few Seconds between the Spawn and the Moment the Dread is in Shield-Lob Range.

    For PLD:

Personally I prefer to Provoke > FoF > Lob, rather than just lobbing. Provoke will keep the dread coming towards you for a single-tick (which covers FoF -- Clarification: Even if a healer 'cures' right then and you lose hate for a split second), is off GCD, and can be used as animation interrupt if you're mid RoH on the Avatar. This permits you to keep attacking till the last second without worry of screwing up.

Besides that, you shouldn't be dying anyway and so you don't have to be concerned with the need to provoke after a revive. If you "do" happen to go down, immediately cover the person with threat until provoke recharges. It won't soak all the damage, yet this can sometime keep them alive. (something had to be really wrong for you to be dead to begin with)

Like others have commented too: You MUST be standing close to the center of the avatar by the time that the dread reaches you (provoke or not). If you don't, and you get brainjacked, you may turn the dread around and kill the party with rotoswipe.

I never get brainjacked during Dreads....must be a different strat? We only get 2 dreads total. The first Dread tower we just let auto tic until he pops. The 2nd dread tower we put 2 people into it and as soon as the first Brainjack wears off we force pop it with a 3rd person. Its dead long before the 2nd brainjack.

We always permit the dread tower to tick, rather than manual trigger. So that may be it in this case.

In the times where DPS are 'really fast', there's usually no issue and the dread goes down before brainjack happens. However, if DPS is delayed a bit I've seen brainjack while the dread is out ... in these cases I just pop an extra CD since I'm going to lose control.

Seen this happen in multiple raid teams, sadly.

**For a PUG, where you don't know how predictable damage is, definitely make sure the dread is around 20% through the boss (not stacked center). So that he doesn't rotate when you run to the center, and so that you don't kill the DPS that's doing brainjack too.

buff preemptive, then provoke (it have a bigger range then lob) + Lob + scorn + rage of halone, rampart + convalescence then normal halone combo.
