I appreciate everyone with thoughtful, intelligent, and positive feedback.

The point of this post, and I would assume all others on this forum, is to bring good ideas to the dev's attention and hopefully others will show their support and add even more exciting/viable/fun suggestions to make it easy for the devs to put it in game.

But the bottom line is this is SE's game to create, we just play in it. Whatever goes in or stays out of FFXIV is up to them. They have been gracious enough to give us an opportunity to voice our ideas to them, so why come here to undermine other player's suggestions?

I really don't see the point of someone trying to argue specifics of a suggestion that may never be implemented anyway.

OK, back to business.
One of the reasons I really liked BCNMs in XI was that it went against zerg killing that is present in many MMOs.
Typically in a BCNM you would have a small party of people that would actually have to know how to play their class to beat a mob or mobs that are on a higher difficulty scale and do it in a certain amount of time.

Anything that requires player skill and rewards you with valuable loot is what MMOs are all about to me.

One of the biggest challenges for SE, and all other companies making MMOs, is how to you create a game that appeals to both the casual and the hardcore players. I believe implementing something similar to BCNMs would help in achieving this goal. We know FFXIV was tailored more so to the casual player, so putting in harder fights in the form of a BCNM type battle is something the hardcore player can focus on more without breaking the game.

Similar to the Weapons in FF7, the Monster Arena in FFX, the Mark Hunts in FFXII, and so on. They give the hardcore/completionist type player something more to challenge them while the game still allows for the casual player to go all the way through the game without taking part in any of those.

However, I would not like for SE to implement something in XIV that was strictly for "hardcore" players only. I would rather see a BCNM type feature that has levels of difficulty from easy to insane.
