Relic's vs Mythic Weapons - Me thinking too much.

    1. In regards to Relics.... I kinda feel like the game is treating them the right way. Relics in the past are supposed to be the rarity, the item that takes months to complete, that requires a substantial grind, that's kinda it's own status symbol. While most of the things to do are tedious, this kinda falls in line with how relic weapons were done in the past.

FFX you were doing endless blitzball games, or dodging lightning.
In FFXI It required substantial farming/money and going into Dynamis, and when I left the game, relics, while becomming more accessible, were far from being the every day item we see now.

So as the game progresses, and we carry these weapons through patches and expansions, stands to reason there will be less of them in their "final forms" but more options instead for people who want to skip the content, and that seems pretty right.

    2. But has their been much talk of what's to become of mythic weapons as content expands? Mythics in FFXI were part of Aht Urghan expansion, and evolved much like Relics. But I can't recall if SE had mentioned if that would continue to be the case in this game? Personally I'd love for it to, more options are always nice things to have, though I'm not sure what would distinguish the two items, unless they keep Mythic stats locked vs. Relic.

Personally I'd love for Mythics to have quests that involve killing time fate spawn things, such as Behemoth/Odin, which would no doubt bring back the popularity of those fights. I'm not sure what the right number of fights would be, but utilizing that or Ex Primal kills to meet criteria for enhancement could be fun little grind in itself. And a bit more specific than the light farming of Nexus.

    Anyhoo, done ramblin for now.

To be honest, relic weapons in ffxiv right now sucks hard and involve zero shows of your player's skill, it's all about endless grinds on atmas, gils and dungeons spam... infact, even the best reward availlable isn't even BIS when a next coil/raid strike around the corner.

This isn't powerful legendary weapons, this is a just a side-quest goal you can work on in a casual way to get a decent weapon.

FFXIV have yet to introduce legendary weapons that give real advantages like in past final fantasys games, something like job additional effects, hidden effects and whatever that make a legendary weapon forever-bis no matter the patch/update/expansion.

I have both. Mythic weapons had their own multiple stages, as did later Emypean Weapons. Was the difference between something like this.

    And something like this

Always considered these sorts of weapons (Relic/Mythic/Empy) to be more about the humongous time syncs and need to have others participate to help one another get competions.

Armageddon wasn't a hard gun to get.. was just a tedious grind to get it.

Agreeing on empy weapons, it was mostly a long and crazy grind, starting from little magian trial to the final form of the said weapon (could actually look alike the current ffxiv relic's weapons but empy were WAY stronger).

Comparison to Relics and Mythics from ffxi is a big no no there though, endless grinds and gils titanic-sink was just a part of the problem and especially when considering the CRAZY amount of ingame goals being mandatory for a mythic weapon, ingame goals that required to go past your player's skill and/or your motivation's limits.

Could you be as proud of yourself about your Mythic weapon from ffxi and a Relic in ffxiv? I don't think so, impossible.

Personally I'd rather see them do something with Mythic aside from making them time-sensitive and disposable. Even if it was just opening materia slots on them as content progressed to get a little more life out of them.

I like the idea that Yoshida's team has done with Relics/AF, making the base versions a baseline item at 50. This helps players make the first step-up into endgame. Having them slowly upgradable via personal time and effort could give players a reason to maintain a subscription.

Ever since they introduced Novus and the scrolls, I have been confident in saying that Relic weapons will henceforth be the most valuable weapons in the game.
