How come there's no option to run this game in 640x480?

I'm just curious why the resolution can't go below 1024x768, into 800x600 or 640x480. These two resolution options are real options and are usually standard in all games. Switching the game to 640x480 can really speed games up. This option is not available though.

ff14 is cpu limited rather then gpu limited in most situations, so an even lower resolution (which will not permit the default sizes of the ui to fit properly) - will really not improve performance at all.

it really depeneds. i still think it's sttrange for these options to not be there.

That's not actually the point. i run my desktop in 640x480 too. it's not a performance thing. I simply think that it looks better. It's a choice of physical display. much like how the ps1 looks primitive or small in resolution. 640x480 is a primitive graphical resolution for the pc. So to keep it in 640x480- is retro.

However large resolutions isn't futuristic either. Performances can only be measured at the lowest resolution possible. So you test it from the lowest resolution possible on PC. You may also test it from the highest level possible.

So until windows operating system no longer allows 800x600 resolution for the desktop it is not a primitive resolution yet. It is actually more primitive to leave it out. So when windows operating system phases out 800x600- for desktop display i will acknowledge you. However for someone like me it's more of a visual choice.

edit: 800x600 is the lowest resolution possible. however it can still enter 640x480 in safe mode or without a graphical adapter. Can also enter 640x480 through (low resolution mode) This is in windows 7 anyways.

320x240 is an obsolete resolution. There are still uses for 640x480.

well that's how it has looked since windows 95. that is compatability mode. When you go to Safe Mode, it is normal that it goes to 640 X 480 because
in Safe Mode, Windows does not load the video card normal drivers...

Safe mode is 800x600 in vista and higher
and if you change it while in safe mode it will remain at a higher resolution unless you select the vgasave boot option,

That said, you are only hurting your own experience by continuing to use such a low resolution, when doing so restricts screen real estate for macros and ui windows. (good luck reading the map while trying to find stuff)

Are you playing in full screen or windowed? I think you can set custom resolution in windowed mode. And I do play in windowed mode, enables me to alt-tab to browser & stuff. Windowed mode also enables you to custom your resolution size by simply click & dragging the window corners.

For example, I do set my resolution from 1280x720 to 1280x500 so I can see water sprout in Levi extreme mode way better. After instance done, I change it back to 720p. lol
