Oh yeah, I'm not saying Dex is any good. Parry and Dex are both bad ideas.

So, I forgot what the OP was actually asking, so let's talk of that.

1. DEX will not help with Shield Lob. Despite its identity as a ranged attack, Shield Lob actually scales off of STR. DEX does nothing here.
2. DEX cannot be put on a Novus.
3. Yes, we're pretty sure block is checked before parry.
4. DEX increases block/parry rates at a worse rate than Parry. It's not worth it anyway.
5. The ideal 3rd stat for your Novus is probably Accuracy. The weapon is the safest slot(in terms of loss to DPS/Threat) to put Accuracy, and it's also a great idea to have it on the hardest slot to switch out for something else.

Oh, and the last bit. Parry isn't so completely awful that you should avoid it entirely. Like Accuracy, the best slot to throw some for a little extra mitigation is your weapon, as Weapon Damage makes up for the DPS/Threat you lose by not having other secondaries.

Max Threat choice : DET and CRIT
Cheapskate choice : SKS and Acc

Why not just take the safe route with Parry and play around with your jewelry?

^ this is what I did. Went full Parry and then Acc on my Sword and Shield. If I need extra threat, which you don't really have to worry about to begin with, then switch out a VIT acc for STR one. 1 or 2 18 STR acc's will out weigh any crit/det combo you put on the Novus. Not to mention on most servers right now, crit and det materia are super expensive.

Actually, exactly one 18 STR accessory will match 44 crit and 31 det almost exactly. To reference how little that is compared to the majesty that is Weapon Damage, the WD on a Curtana Novus is equivalent to 445 STR.
