It is possible to take screenshots without your character in it. There is a setting in configs that allows you to go to 1st person view when you zoom in all the way. From there just move around until your shot is framed up, hide the ui and take your pic. I do this most of the time I take screenshots.
Oh I know you can go into 1st person view but that is so limited on what you can take pictures with.
