    Foresight Idea.

If it's one thing I'd like to see implemented for Warrior, would be a Warrior Trait that is earned in the 40+ range that gives Warrior some kind of +Parry when Foresight is activated.

I mean come on! The move is called Foresight, and it increases defense only? Lol I always thought this was silly. Now as a cross class skill for PLD and other jobs, it would only increase Defense as it does now, but for Warrior, it gets +Parry as well.

    Any thought and opinions?

Sounds good, but parry is very meh, for my WAR anyways. My PLD likes the parry, but my WAR, meh.

Wut. I won't say parry is great in general, but it's better on WAR than PLD. And that's not an opinion, that's simple demonstrable fact due to PLD's ability to shield block, and that you can't block and parry the same hit.

As far as OP's suggestion, you could say foresight needs a buff, because it's certainly not great. Then again, it is a level 2 ability, it's not supposed to be that great. Parry's not the only way they could go with a buff if it was decided it needs an improvement. The magic defense idea is nice since as is it's utterly useless in some fights. And they're not even limited to one type of boost.

But the thing is, SE's never going to tweak an ability because the ability is bad. They have to look at the bigger picture and see if a job is doing badly; tweaking abilities always has to fit within that framework. And at the moment, both tanks are doing their job relatively well.

Actually, it could be argued that Parry is more beneficial for PLD than WAR when you combine it with your Shield properly. For example:

A 110/115 Kite Shield confers a block rate of approximately 30%.
600 Parry confers a parry rate of approximately 30%

It is known that an physical attack goes approximately like this: Attack! -> Check block -> If block fails, check parry -> Get hit.

Thus, PLDs are banking on the probability of either block or parry reducing the damage of an attack. If you can keep both of these rates equal, then the properties of a binomial distribution begin to apply. When both rates are at 30-31%, then your actual chance of at least one of them proccing is 40-42%. I certainly can't name a number, but there's a point where adding Parry for a PLD confers benefits beyond the shield. Once you hit it, each point of Parry is technically worth less but you're climbing to higher numbers than possible with just one.

So your 30% parry in that scenario is really amounting to 10-12% boost from having 0% parry and just shield blocking. No, PLD does not parry more than WAR. At absolute *best* it would parry exactly as much as WAR, and that's if you went pants-on-head retarded mode and didn't wear a shield.

You seem to have missed me lumping a "Blocked" attack and a "Parried" attack into the same category. Aside from some slightly different numbers, they do the exact same thing. Therefore, it is not necessary to wholly separate them in the case of a PLD.

But, since you're having trouble, let's say things in completely unambiguous terms. A PLD who stacks Parry will mitigate attacks more often then a WAR who stacks Parry. Therefore, stacking Parry ultimately confers better benefits to PLD than to WAR.

    Is that better?

This is actually quite untrue. You can mitigate more and heal a lot more damage than parry can ever mitigate by going with str and dps secondaries. Warrior DOES NOT TANK LIKE A PALADIN. and it is a huge misconception. Parry is terrible for both War and Paladin(slightly better for paladin) because of the scaling and tanking meta this game currently has. In FF14 you do not tank with RNG based stats, but you tank with properly activated CD's.

Parry doesn't work on boss skills (as far as I know) and if you die from an auto attack, the problem lies elsewhere.

Parry definitely works on boss skills. Thinking of Ravensbeak and Bahamut Claw in particular. Any magic attack (ramuh!) block and parry are useless.

Parry/Blocking works on Physical skills including boss skills.
