I do have a question that relates to this topic. IS it best to take your first class all the way to 50 before branching out to others or does it matter?
Thanks for any advice!

Personally, I found it fun to switch it up a bit. I actually changed my main class from BRD to PLD halfway through because BRD just wasn't clicking for me.
(The links below are sadly outdated. I hope to get around to updating things at some point.)

There is also a certain amount of merit to making sure that you obtain the cross class skills for your class/job before you hit 50. this may matter for some jobs more than others, but for example, gla/pld is much better with mrd at least lvl 8 for foresight/bloodbath.

You should absolutely, definitely stop along the way to get your job at level 30 (which involves leveling another class to 15) if nothing else. Past that, it doesn't really matter that much. Cross class skills can help you level a little easier, crafting/gathering jobs can help you financially while you level. But being level 50 can help with all that, too. It's sort of a wash, and down to personal preference.
You'll also encounter Active Help at level 10 that says you get a bigger experience bonus on lower level classes the greater the difference between them and your current class. This text is incorrect; you get a flat 50% XP bonus anytime you are not on your highest class. (I bring it up because the help text sort of implies you should grind out a lot of levels before switching classes, and that's not true.)

Only reason why I would make alts is to try another gender, ( I have a male miqote that I just adore<3) or try out another race without fantasia potions. Otherwise, I love that I can switch between classes if I don't feel like healing or DPSing certain fights.![]()
Thanks for all the info! I guess I will take every class i see lol I still haven't seen the Gladiator trainer must be in the city I haven't made it to yet.
It's odd how often I see people list getting a chance to repeat all the one-time-only content as being a disadvantage, whereas I see it as being by far the biggest advantage of why people would want to make new characters. I for one like the game's main storyline, so like being able to play through it more than just once. Even a lot of the side quests are pretty fun as well.
Aside from a brief detour by level 30 to bring up your job's secondary class to 15 so you can unlock your job, the rest is mainly a personal preference issue. (Oh, that's except for crafting classes. If you're interested in crafting, it's better to level all of those up together.)

I'd suggest doing everything on one character; unless you want variant races/genders. All mine are female: I main a Seeker Miqo'te Smn that I plan on leveling up most of the jobs on. However, I also have a Lalafell bard that I just hit 50 with, as well as a lowlevel Roe... of which I might fantasia at the expansion to see how the new race (thats been hinted at lightly) is, if its released.
My fiancee has a 50 DRG Miqo'te main, a Roe alt (that has a 50 sch and working on crafting), and a lala.
A FC mate of mine has fantasia'ed their character several times; i am unsure if they can even buy any more. Alting for race is the best solution as Fantasia is currently limited to how many you can buy.

Sorry. Had no internet for a few days. Thanks for your replies, I'll probably play another character for the starting zones then and maybe later for the story. Not really sure what to think of it... I like playing different classes and getting through the progression again but my alts usually die because it's so annoying to actually equip them.
