This.
A million times, this.
I'm 8/12 on my second set, just grinding fates between content.
Maybe 20 hours invested. Tops.
Drop rate is fine.
For every 45 minutes you spend on here complaining the drop rate blows, at least 10 chances at getting an atma vanish.
Also, OP:
Just seeking out people who only agree with you isn't the purpose of a forum, either online or otherwise.
That's what the National Tea Party is for.
Poetically enough those moaning about the drop rate on here could go out, do a couple FATEs and get a couple atma after they have had their say here while you have actually been grinding FATEs and end up with nothing. When the amount of FATEs grinded has nothing to do with acquiring atma, your comment comes up rather moot.
It had been a while since it took me almost 2000 fates to get my Atma. So long in fact, that I started looking at it through rose coloured glassed. I was telling myself it couldn't have been as bad as I remembered it being. I convinced myself of this, and started working on a second set.
The first one dropped within 4 Fates, nice! "This really isn't that bad I can do this" -the words came to mind immediately. Then I spent 8 hours over the next two days looking for another one, but came up empty. That's when I remembered the rage. That's when I threw my controller as hard as I could at a big fluffy pillow. "This really is that bad and I cant do this again"
I want another 12 Atma for NIN, but not until the raise the drop rate.
Same feelings. When I restarted the Atma step again for my BRD, I got the first two Atma's pretty quick (within ten minutes), after that, though... the horror.
I could learn BLU spells in FFXI faster (I would learn maybe three-five spells every three hours) than I could get Atma in this game. My BLU in FFXI knows (excluding most Unbridled spells) every spell on this list. Especially the useless spells: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mage#Spell_List
Because it's RNG. As I said either here or on the other thread, I decided to spend three hours a day trying to get Atma. I was in Eastern Thanalan for around four-five days.

Learning BLU spells was actually really enjoyable to me, the excitement when you see the mob use the move, then the anticipation of seeing if you learnt it. I left when level cap was still 90, but I'd learnt all the spells up to that point.I could learn BLU spells in FFXI faster (I would learn maybe three-five spells every three hours) than I could get Atma in this game. I actually used to learn them for my wife's BLU. She found them stressful and annoying. I found them fun and relaxing. Perhaps this is why Atma grinds don't bother me and why I don't have much empathy for those who don't have the patience required for it.
