It's worse on PC. You can be literally facing, right in front of, the monster you want to target and it will still target something random to your left, far in the back. I play a mix of controller and keyboard\mouse, depending what I am doing, and I really wish I could get the targeting predictability of the controller with the UI control of the keyboard\mouse. Perhaps the expectation wouldn't be there if there weren't targeting options in the menu - but there are and they just don't work.

PC has an option to auto-face what you are attacking.
And it's something that no one should get used to. If you want to do any sort of raiding, it's best to just leave this one ticked off. Even with very careful planning of abilities, that one unexpected twitch of a finger can have you running back into the fire.

You can remedy this by changing to legacy controls, your "forward" will be camera based and it'll allow you to snap-face for targeted (for 180* even) weapon skills while keeping on the move. It'll also allow you to run backwards with the S key instead of backpeddling. The trade off though is that it's much less reliable to keep enemies on screen for auto attacks (since mouse turning doesn't change where your character is facing).

Also, I can attest to multiple accidental pulls because of this god forsaken tab targeting. The worse example I can come up with is accidentally targetting a pack of enemies that was across hte room after the 2nd boss in AK, or the diremites beyond the first barrier in tam-tara (heroic).
