[curiosity]Raiding... how do you approach it....

Some groups will watch a specific guide and follow the steps exactly, some will watch multiple and take a mashup and go with that... Some will read a text based guide and work off of that.. Some will go in blind with no guides or explanations and figure it out on your own...

My own group goes in blind and we have tons of fun trying to figure out stuff - after we mostly have stuff figured we might look at at guide or two to improve our understanding of the fight - and no we are not at the cutting edge of progression..

What about your groups? How do you handle it?

Usually just go in blind, have one person record the raid, and review it.
After we think we have the info of what we did, we compare them with other VoDs/ ask other people how they handle this situation.
Usually the next day we try other strats; in the end we either use a different strat or combine them.

All really depends on the group's patience though!

can't really talk about static, since I'm not in one, but I usually approach endgame contents by reading 1 or 2 guides beforehead, I watch a video, and when I have the genera idea of how it works, I jump in DF to earn some direct experience...
whenever I feel ready to go for the kill, I jump to PF, and wait hours till the party is filled xD

We usually check a guide to know atleast what skills boss uses but then we just make our own tactic how to finish dat thing. Challenging enough for me.

Enter the fight without any information in advance and wipe after 10 seconds. Then watch a video and trying the fight out again. After a few hours of own experience, watch the video again for details you may have missed or couldn't bring into context without seeing it with your own eyes. Then wipe, wipe, wipe and adjust your party setup till you win. Talk to each other about good AND bad things that happened and do not be afraid to talk about weak spots you have identified.

My group approaches it the "fun" way. We slam our faces against the wall until we break a hole through it!

We try it by ourselves until a video of the fight itself is out. Then I watch the video and think about a strategy what could fit at best for my group. Then it is trial & error until the boss is down. Videos are nice for a first impression, but to kill a boss you have to come up with your own stuff and practice it until all 8 members can execute their job.

Used to do it for fun and story. Basically my group was going in, trying to survive the longest that we could to see the max of the fight (without actually fighting sometimes, we went into T4's P3 with still some bugs the first time, to see what was coming), then we were discussing about what happened, testing a bit for repetability and progressing to the next step. As soon as it became boring and/or dull, we were "out for the day and let's do other fun stuff".

Now I don't have a group anymore. It will be "go and see what you can do, deal with the hate in DF and eventually enjoy the CS of that irrelevant content"

I catch whatever learning groups I can and slowly, but surely pick up experience with hands on experience. I feel this is the best and more casual friendly way to learning raids.
