I think I just poked a hole in the Zodiac Braves Books quest

    Greetings,

I just thought of this as I was progressing through the Zodiac Braves quest series.

During the dialogue when picking up a book you learn that in order to Enhance your relic weapon Atma you must defeat certain enemies that the Zodiac Braves defeated in the past to infuse their souls into your weapon to bring out its full potential. That much is feasible, what I currently find is a possible plot problem is the fact that some of the Zodiac Brave books require you to kill Garlean Soldiers/Magitek.

The fact that the Zodiac Braves existed in Thavnairian Legend depicts that this all occured prior to the Garlean invasion of Eorzea. Considering Garlemald was only found in 1521 by Solus Zos Galvus (who is said to be in his eighties), this leads me to believe that the Zodiac Braves (of Legend) could not have encountered Garlean forces? Unless the Zodiac Braves aren't really heroes and were battling the settlers who the Garleans are descendants of?

    So... what gives? Fernehawles!!!!

It was explained as being "things like the things that the Zodiac Braves fought back in 1.0" or something along those lines. The books are basically updated translations that substitute New Age stuff for the Legacy enemies.

This was previously addressed in a live letter shortly before 2.3's release

Question: The Trials of the Braves are supposed to be ancient texts that showcase the deeds of the Zodiac Brave heroes, but why are modern imperial weapons shown in the book?

Answer: The Trials of the Braves is an ancient text that was translated into a current Eorzea edition. Just as Jalzahn explains, it traces the deeds of the Zodiac Braves and if you put it into terms of Eorzea currently, it’s lore is similar to that monster…
