What you are describing is not a video game.I support this. After reading through this thread I will say this.
Why are people mad over this idea?
No loot, no achievements, no progression PERIOD.
Just cutscenes.
This isn't even a casual vs hardcore content thing. Us casuals are NOT trying to get a free ride. We just want story.
But I do agree. SE would have to spend time retuning the content.
I say this:
Offer a quest that awards all the cutscenes.
We talk to some NPCs, and get a "Echo Crystal".
It lets us watch All the cutscenes from the innroom.
Boom. Problem solved. No Raid is even touched.
No loot, no exp, no echo buff, nothing.
Everyone is happy.
How does watching it from within the game engine differ from watching it on Youtube then? Like now you are just arguing about nothing. We have this day and age an easy medium to share videos and cutscenes, this isn't 2004 with people watching the Chains of Pomathia missions from Allakhazam with terrible compression (even though people still did it back then). The story is also part and parcel of the total reward. It's the same how if you don't beat a boss in a single-player FF game, you don't learn what happens next. Well, except you do if you watch it online. Yet you want to get access to that without even doing a single thing, let alone beating something. How freaking entitled are you? Do you ask developers to show all the cutscenes of single players games right when you launch it as well?I support this. After reading through this thread I will say this.

So, instead of trying to get into a pre-existing static which doesn't fit your schedule, start your own with your own requirements.Perhaps you are like that on your server. But on Hyperion there is a boarderline elitism where people won't put you in a static unless you meet the status quo. I have wanted to leave this server but I've played on it for so long, I just don't think it would do any good to swap and expect to be "welcomed aboard" when i have no history with that community.
I used to queue for first coil in DF pretty often, but all I kept getting where players who couldnt, or wouldnt understand english. Or wouldn't take any notice whatsoever of any advice given while dieing to the same mistake over and over while blaming everyone else before rage quitting. And becuase of those the ones who were willing to learn gave up also so 90% of the time they just fell apart because of the above reasons.
So I switched to helping parties in PF instead, think it was any different than DF? lolski. Had players who had no clue and no intention of even trying to find one joining hoping for a carry with zero effort or care. Or players expecting a one-shot in a learning party and after a wipe, quit.
Thre gets a point when you just say forget it, it aint worth the hassle of trying to help people whos ego is too big to admit to themselves that they need help and blithely continue blaming their mistakes on anyone else except where it belongs, themselves.
Ego is a insurmountable wall to self progression, in every aspect, RL included.
So pretty much the only things I DF are roulettes, not much can go wrong there as they are easy. Anything which takes coordiantion? I stick with FC and static for that. I don't play to be stressed by stupidity, laziness or egocentrics.

OP here, on a different account for various reasons irrelevant to the point I'll make.
First, I'm really surprised. You know, this post I made is from October 2014, and to see it being necro'ed was quite a surprise. Even more considering that all in all, it resumed into this :
So to make a few things clear,
=> Story mode raid is already coming. Alexander will have 2 difficulties : "easy" one which will be nerfed + echo difficulty (don't be brain-dead to clear) and "difficult" one said to be on par with savage difficulty, requiring easy mode rewards to clear AND giving better loot.
Whether that was decided thanks to all the posts about an eased option for everyone to enjoy the story or not (maybe a copy of WoW's LFR raid, I don't know) is not important. It's coming. We can only wonder if Coil will get an eased treatment too or if they'll decide to nerf everything and add savage mode for T1-5 and T10-13 at the same time.
=> SE already implemented an option for people to get carried through coil with no loot. The decreasing reward system. It's being abused quite a bit by run sellers actually but can't help it, the customers are here and they're happy to fulfill the supply![]()
Anyway, this can be used as a way to get the clear all the way up if you have good enough friends who do not mind to carry you one day (it takes about an hour to do it as I've been told, but they must be able to clear it with 7 people only, which can be tricky for most people). The option is here as a band aid and it's fine until real decisions are taken about what to do with Coil imo.
Now I've read quickly through the new conversation and I'd just say one thing :
this is false. The coil provides the explanation about what happened in Carteneau at the end of 1.0 after Nael's demise. It's an important part (I'd even say, essential) of the transition between 1.0 and 2.0. It would be like going into 3.0 suddenly, killing dragons but with 2.1 story. Why dragons ? Why Ishgard ? No clue. Just as we had no clue why the world was all fine 5 years only after being ravaged, nor why did Bahamut disappeared, etc...I'm gonna have to disagree here. Not because of it being a bad decision but it being considered so integral. The story is cool, yeah, but it's literally not mentioned ANYWHERE else besides while in Coil or unlocking the next one. Everyone in Eorzea (including the Scions and the twin Alphinaud) go about their days completely not mentioning a thing about what you learn down in coil. It's practically noncanon.
I've played and watched all of the cutscenes to the main scenario. The EX primals have more to do with it than any coil. They never wonder what happened to certain people, they never mention Bahamut, they never do anything. It's not a part of anything main story wise. It's just another piece of a different story.
You don't see the connection because you tried to tie it with 2.0 story, while it was in fact the missing piece of the 1.0 => 2.0 story.
Now that I've said what I had to say, I wish this thread could sink again. It is not relevant anymore, and has been debated enough already. All that you might say now has already been said in the 600ish answers before you.
Thank you.
There's no good reason to be against this for content over a year old. Telling people it's already too easy isn't any help to someone who wants this feature because it clearly -isn't- easy enough for them. It doesn't diminish your internet dragon killing accomplishments to let someone have access to cutscenes no one else cares about anymore.
[QUOTE=FranSeara;2777642]Why should vets have to teach any random player that expects to be taught? When in many cases they do not want to be taught anyways yet expect "vets" to go back and carry them through content. How do you think vets learnt? How do you think they got to the point to be able to clear hardest content? By players teaching them? No, we didn't.
Do you think vets should pay the same and then be expected to teach others? Very few will buy and pay subs for an MMO under the concept that they pay to be a teaching b*tch to anyone else. We pay and play for the same reasons, to play the game. There are NUMEROUS guides out there from players who are willing to teach yet lazy players will not use them, complaints about being asked to read a guide and/or watch a video made by someone who went that extra mileto create them. No, they prefer to go in blind under the expectations that everyone else in that party will write them a guide in party chat for their sole benefit.
I'm willing to give advice, I'm willing to help, but heres the thing, they have to be willing to help themselves too. By utilizing the resources that are freely and easily available. See too many times someone new in hard content saying it's their first time, which is fine, but second thing they say is "What do I do?". I just facepalm. So they won't make a tiny effort to read a guide yet expect someone to type out a guide during the duty for them to read? Or they don't even say anything when it's their first time and cause wipes anyways.
There's players who don't even read the toolltip description of their abilities amount of BRDs that refused to play foe requim because they believe "it lowers mu DPS". Whereas taking 10 seconds to read the tooltip would show that it doesn't!
Or best yet, going in blind with English selected with zero understanding of the language.

These are some really good points. Content dying out is already a huge problem and releasing content stillborn is something to be absolutely wary of.
Another thing that's not good about giving players easy skips is that they never learn basic things on easier encounters but get access to newer, more complex encounters and get completely walled.
Getting to T9 nowadays is really easy but T9 itself is actually quite a competency check.
Thanks! We put a lot of thought in to the discussion.
By the way if there's anyone who thought our conversation was too one sided is always welcome to call in and express their opinions on the show.
Details about the show and how you can get involved can be found at http://limitbreakradio.com. Our next live show is March 1st and we'd love to field some calls on this topic.

I think your all going to be surprised when Alexander Easy Mode is still on par with current Coil, while the Harder version is the savage version, basically what we got with SCOB but loot instead of titelsOP here, on a different account for various reasons irrelevant to the point I'll make.

All the salty raiders in this thread not wanting to share their precious raids because it's their last resort to retain their shallow pride.
