Saw a blond, female Hyur botanist retainer just outside of Bentbranch harvesting. She was saying a few things like "not another low quality," "I'm having no luck today," "Just one more." After about 10 minutes she said "That should do it," and teleported away. Was quite amusing (and a good distraction from my FATE grind).
But are they really retainers or just "random" npcs? I'd kill to see my ratainers out there gathering and kill stuff for me![]()

They are preset npcs that randomly appear. They are not actual player retainers.
If they were actual player retainers then I would see more than just the 1 same guy mining in N Than, but it's always him, just like in the other areas those npcs that have been seen will always been the same ones in those specific areas. It gives the illusion that our retainers are out doing stuff, but in reality, those npcs are not retainers of players.
I am betting it's player retainers with the game randomizing who they use for others to see in the field.

I hope so, it always made me a little sad that nobody can see what my retainers look like since the rental stalls in the market wards from 1.0 no longer exist.

Maybe if we request it we'll see our own randomly.
Also, has anyone seen retainers hanging out in residential wards?
Had to take it quickly so it wasn't a good ss, this is the second time I see a retainer walking between camp dragonhead and whitebrim and I knew he would disappear fast.

Ohhh I'm jelly! Not seen one yet~ Neat feature. Even if they are just random generated NPCs to give the illusion of seeing your retainer, it's still a nice touch.
