lord of the inferno - stuck

hi guys just started a couple of days ago, I have been loving the game and story but I have come to a halt on this quest.

I'm a level 24 archer and don't know how to progress in the story, this is the second time I have tried queueing for this quest and the queue time is almost at 120 minutes. I can't stay online for that long so I'm wondering what to do now.

I have considered making a new character into a tank or healer but I really like my archer so far, should I just come back and play when I can find myself a 3-4 hour time period of playing

Hmm that's a really long que even for a ranged dps, the best I would say is doing it during peak hours it shouldn't take that long to get In cause players still use the daily low level roulette and Ifrit story mode is part of that roulette so it should help you out in getting players since it's across your entire data center.

Option 1: Ask your fc to help and form a premade party. Alternatively, even as dps I don't think it will take 2 hours to get in even if that's what it says in the window. Especially since higher level players who have cleared it are doing daily "roulettes" which put them in this content for you to help with wait times.

Please remember that making an Tank or Healer does not require that you create a new character. In FFXIV you can level every class on a single character.

More to the point, as others have mentioned try your luck during peak hours for your server. Peak times will differ from server to server so it is something you will have to pay attention to on Tonberry.
When using DF, please remember to select all languages and to check off 'joining in progress'. Sometimes, it help to simply requeue for the duty.
Still, 120 min is excessive @_@;;...
Secondly, enlist the aid of fellow Linkshell and Free Company mates.
If you are not in one, now may be a good time to think about joining a Linkshell and/or a Free Company.

Sorry for the frustration you are facing! >_<

Since you're located on Tonberry, which is on a Japanese data center, that'll definitely help out a lot. I used to play on Valefor and had up to 9 hour waits without hitting all language tabs. After I discovered them, it got a LOT easier to get into stuff.

Also what may help is to have all languages checked off. I have heard of it helping others before

Linkshell = invite only chat channel with up to 128 people. You can belong to up to 8 of them at a time.
Freecompany = guild/people you hang out with

As mentioned, since you are on a Japanese data cluster the majority of the people are likely queueing in Japanese so selecting Japanese under language should help immensely. Note that you may then be expected to communicate in Japanese of course.
Did you realize you were on a Japanese data cluster? If not you may want to consider moving or creating a new character in a different cluster. Lodestone Link See section 2 for the data center selection. If the server selection was intentional, then I think most of the English speaking players on Tonberry are based in Australia/New Zealand so evening hours for them are when you are likely to find the most English players on.

Ifrit specific advice - kill the nail as soon as it shows up

As others have said, Tonberry is part of the Japanese server group, so this is where your problem is lying - Duty Finder only forms parties of players from the same server region as well as based on language selected, so if you've only set DF to find parties with English and you're on a JP server, you will definitely find it hard to find a party. At the very least, set it to Japanese as well, and you should find things will be much better.

You shouldn't have too much trouble with baby Ifrit once you can actually get into the battle, even if your party members don't speak the same language, as it is now pretty much straightforward for most players, especially if you have a party of level 50s level synced down will usually make sport of him (I often queue on Lord of the Inferno as level 50 simply because I love the BGM and the battle is so much fun .

as a dps i know what long waits are like im used to 1hour+ main roulette if only got english checked off in DF but if i check off all languages in df it reduces my wait time to 7mins for hard/expert roulette and 13 mins for main roulette so its a huge difference
