I actually really love this idea. It could be a really cool alternate way to get stuff. Skill: Graverobber: Congratulations you just obtained 10 elemental clusters of ice !
/wishful thinking
All of these are brilliant ideas! But when it comes to what would be gathered, besides rare items, finding crafting items, such as Steel Rivets, or Natron would make this very useful. Now, these items would not have a high scavenging rate, but it would be at least something moderately guaranteed. But at much higher levels, besides gathering unique items, having a chance to get a Darksteel ingot or Vanya silk would make this worth it alone (Or armor Augmentation tools)! Mostly a Gathering Log would be followed, like any job. But what would we use for tracking rare items...
personally I see this class going hand in hand with an additional DoH class: Bonecrafter. If you remove the strictly bone related crafts (horn rings, bracelets, etc) from goldsmithing, and move them to a bonecrafting class, you could create an entire new set of weapons, parts of weapons, shields, jewelry, even masks. Goldsmithing would still have things like the Earth Brand, but instead of using an aldagoat horn as an ingredient, it would use an aldagoat rod, which would be created by bonecrafting. Bonecrafting could be vastly expanded by the types of bones that could be dug up. This opens the door for what items the archaeologist job could gather. Bones, Teeth, metal shards that could be polished and used in archery / lancer weapon heads. They could dig up human remains which would could include things like the moldy armor, or even raw allagan coins. They could gather up ore (or rotten ore, that requires more to make an ingot, say 3 iron ore for iron ingot, or 5 rotten iron ore to make an iron ingot. It would give some interesting variety, and alternate materials for certain recipes). They could even gather items that are exclusively used for desynth.
I approve of the archeologist class, I think its great!
what archeologist use as main weapon and offhand?? i have no idea but really interested![]()
I think a interesting "weapon"(if it comes to a weapon) would be Measure from FFXII
Measures
Measures have low attack ratings, but ignore defense when used, damage being calculated based solely on the weapon's attack. Measures also cause beneficial status effects on hit, so they are to be used to strengthen the party without using MP and should generally be switched out for more conventional weapons after being used. Measures add 25 evasion, which, along with the ability to equip shields, makes a character equipped with a measure difficult to hit.
Measures are also effective when attacking characters to remove the confuse status since Measures do not deal heavy damage yet they can confer beneficial statuses. Unlike other melee weapons, measures have a chance of dealing critical hits. Targets cannot parry or block measure attacks, but the wielder can still miss due to bad accuracy. Measures cannot knockback enemies. Measures have the same speed as hammers and maces at 2.63s charge, and 1.2s action time.
