[dev1124]Why do we have so many text commands?

    This isn't dos or unix.

I want to show or hide my helmet, I need a text command. I want to turn AoE casting on and off. Text command. For dev1124, if I want to hide things in passive mode, I need to use a text command. I want to shout. I HAVE TO USE A STINKING TEXT COMMAND!!!!11!!!1!1!!!1!!

Please Squenix, minimize the amount of text commands in the game as much as possible. The helmet command should be a button in the gear screen, as should displaying weapons in passive. AoE? It should be on the action bar. Targeting mode? It should be a drop down instead of just an icon (and where is up/down for party members and NPCs, left/right for mobs?). Shout? It should be an option in the chat window and it should stay on when I turn it on, bloody feature.

My guess is that it is far easier to add a text command into the game than to adjust the UI to add a button somewhere.

    BINGO!

Text commands come first then when enough time has passed to modify the UI you will see it in the menus. Not to mention text commands are required for macro programming.

    One word - Macros.

Besides, there are those of us who prefer to use text commands over the UI because it is faster.

Keep the text commands but improve the UI is what you should be asking for.

Shout? It should be an option in the chat window and it should stay on when I turn it on, bloody feature.

Winterclaw, your concerns are quite valid on the whole.

I believe when the interface has been refined further that existing players will be able to enjoy aspects of FF14 even more and that new players will have a reduced learning curve into enjoying the game.

I wouldn't mind them adding a section under config. or something that lists all the text commands, cause it sucks when you don't know them.
