    Importance of reading

Just had "Hero on the Halfshell" fail due to the tank not reading the chat log. It's sad because it's probably the only guildhest that will kick you because you killed something.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that all players pay attention to the chat while in a group or dungeon (This goes twice over if you're new to the duty). Not only do party members share tactics and important information through it, but boss queues and enemy spawn notifications regularly appear there.

Even if you're unable to type that efficiently due to console woes or some other issue, it's best that you show that you are aware of what is going on in the chat. This can be anything from using quick emotes, auto-translate, or simply following suggestions or orders made in the chat log.

You're asking people to actually read the quest objectives? I personally feel the devs made that one just to catch all of those that just go "Ohh big bad, must kill".

But....then again, I've seem a lot of people go on autopilot these days when they play.

Also note, typing on a console in any capacity - even auto translate - (aside from keyboard) is rather difficult, and often not worth the effort [first hand experience]. So, it's a real toss up.

But you can still read what others type, which is the important part.

See also Copperbell Mines. Stop killing the bombs. (Also the Malboro guildhest is a horror story if nobody attacks bubbles)

I've found that in the first guild heists and dungeons there are new players who have party chat settings broken and as soon as I repeat it in 'Say' mode they stop and then we're able to communicate, fix their settings to turn party chat on, and they're good to go. Why would they disable it? Oh, for the same reason as so many new players do, they go level 1-15 getting RMT tells and not knowing what to do about them and they turn off just about everything and screw up their log settings. The two level 10 guild heists can be completed without realizing there's communication going on, because even if people don't read the box (which they should) they can finish them doing them the wrong way (and since they're there to teach mechanics for upcoming instances doing them the right way matters.

The following happened the other day it was actually really cute I was helping out a New Adventurer in Gridania who had a question for me and didn't get my Tell back and we figured out they had Say on but Tell off (blame RMT and those who allow it to run rampant). They said 'My shouts don't work either or no one responds.' and I asked how so and they said here's an example which was something like- "HEY I NEED HELP AGAINST THESE THREE VENEMOUS TOADSTOOLS!'. So then I said- 'That's not actually using Shout, that's just using all caps in Say mode.'

Some people of course aren't receptive to advice and I won't waste my time arguing with someone over something that's supposed to make the experience better for them, but the in general the following holds true- Help a new player out, and they'll never forget you for it. Treat a new player really horribly, and they'll never forget you for it.

10 posts per page is only the default setting; it is bad, and you should feel bad if you haven't changed it.

On a side note I've found it funny that you can cross class Flash onto a Conjurer. I've had to out aggro Tanks who didn't know what to do in the turtle guildhest by spamming Medica on the smoking grass, I guess this is a situation where I could make use of that Medica -> Flash combo I always thought it would be funny to try.
