Flash yourself with a newer bios. I'll bet gil you will see problem solved.
His specs arent spectacular. But he should be able to run this at minimal settings at least.
An often overlooked problem to BSOD/GSOD is Memory and/or Bios related.

Imagine my disappointment when I picked up this laptop:

And couldn't run this game with out a GSOD every few min. After a bit of research and some time surfing the tech forums at Asus, I had a battle plan. Using a flash card, you can flash you bios with only a few minutes of preparation.

Honestly FFXIV CANT make your computer shut down unless your computer CANT handle FFXIV. Do not blame your computer problems on a video game. If you want better performance with FFXIV chances are you need to get a new computer. Honestly just looking at your specs you barely make the cut to even run FFXIV.

Chances are its your computer overheating. Try monitoring the Temp of your GPU / Both Cores. If it go's above 60'C then you know its an overheating issue. Most computers can reach 80'C before shutting down but it can varry from computer to computer. I do know if you go above 60'C - 70'C you will notice a great decline in performance in FFXIV.

Download this program to monitor your temps:

Just FYI to everyone posting here,

The OP's problem seems to have been resolved by turning off sleep/hibernate mode from their power options panel. However, they had to use the administrator account to do this (for some reason)?

They said they would post back if the problem re-occurred.

I was thinking... maybe since FFXIV is so graphical demanding, it's laptop probably went to sleep mode in order to save batteries?... just my thinking, some laptops are configured to do so and more probable if it's using Windows 7.

That's why I prefer desktop, and even those I use only of my own design. Too bad I can't design my own case. I had a hard time searching for a perfect case, but was unable to find one. Stopped at Black Pearl of $300 worth, but even that one isn't perfect. I will certainly have HDD overheating issues with this case, if I decide to install a RAID array of fast 10000RPM or 15000RPM HDDs. So I have to do with a RAID of 2 WD 500GB server 7200RPMs for system and a one 1TB for data storage. This way I can keep my HDDs at around 36C and still have a decent performance. I'd like to move system to SSDs for even better performance, but its way too expensive. But this case is really good for cooling the rest of my system when a powerful graphics card is installed and produces a lot of heat. I never have overheating issues there. And it can fit just any graphics card like this or this (which is one I currently have).

Hehe, I had forgotten this thread, gonna necro with how I fixed it ..

I degraded nvidia, and the problem haven't occured after that. I am currently playing the game smoothly at max specs without ambient occlusion on. This is only fullscreen though, windowed it lags a bit after 1.18.

I don't know why people says I can't play with these specs when I clearly can ^^
