So we can ditch it not long after we hit level cap and then grind the secondary tome for lightdark armor and collect the weekly tome for the recolored versions of the AF2 while we're tackling the new 8 man weekly lockout raid?

I don't know if they will be coming with the new patch but I definitely want the AF2 gear. New job specific and properly themed gear is well overdue.

The only difference will be, hopefully, a few more bits to distract us from the gear treadmill when we get tired of it.

Artifact gear is prob from job quest, meaning v3.0 and level cap raise. Things you can buy are not AF, but rather mass produced replicas. You wont be able to buy replica of AF2 before they have released the quests to find AF2.
