FFXIV is an extremely successful MMO. It easily surpassed SE's launch expectations and has over 1m subs if not closing in on or past 2m. The game is not dying by any means. And SE has already stated they plan to support the game for 10+ years. If FFXI is any indication of their commitment, I believe them.

People like myself are waiting for the next patch so they're really only logging on cause of lockouts.

People are willing to grind for Ninja just because it's Ninja.

I really do not want to invest in it if it is just going to die later..
Because when I commit, I go all the way.

Please, any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Uh your archer is at lvl 35 and your lw is 7...seriously? I'm not seeing much of commitment at all. You really expect to even grasp what the population and the game is like with that little play time? You haven't even scraped the surface...

You can't expect to come on here and ask these questions. You need to decide for yourself, make the decision on your own whether to stay or go....

This is why developers (not just ARRs ones) are stupid for completely shunning sandbox elements when it comes to MMOs. Theme park MMOs have to have a grind to pad out content while they make more, when people finish/get bored with a new ride, populations die off until the next content patch comes with new rides. Even Frontlines, which at its core should be sandbox content, has been heavily theme parked by locking it in an instance and completely removing it from the world. Victory in Frontlines is just for personal achievements, it's not so your server can have your Grand Company coming out on top to reap the rewards.

Competition (not just PvP) in a MMO is a good thing. If Group A wins, they play more to ensure they win again, and Group B players more to try and win next time. Instead we just have a theme park where "Everyone is a winner!", handing out trophies like this just leaves people bored until the next trophy comes out. Competition has people constantly fighting over a trophy, and thus constantly playing.

I totally agree with this statement. IMO that is why ppl stop logging in until next patch or move on. Competition is fun for many ppl. Look at all the professional sports we have all over the world.

With the design of this game. "WoW Model". You will have a large population drop towards the end of every major patch. Once the patch hits you will get a chunk of those players back for 1-2 months then they will leave again.

This model of game design causes a massive lack of content over and over again. Technically the quantity of valid content never increases in XIV, they just replace the old with new constantly which causes the cycle of players we have. (example is you are at endgame, aka capable of doing the hardest content already.... there is actually less to do in patch 2.4 then there is now <= this is bad.)

Is this game losing players... yea at an extremely accelerated rate compared to what happened with XI, but xiv also a much larger playerbase. So it will take longer to get to low numbers. People do not like having to wait for stuff to do, they try other game. If they find one that occupies their time they will make that their new mmo.

In my opinion this game unless it changes its direction and starts focusing on some complexity and more horizontal growth it will lose 40-50% of its subs within the next year or 2. The game has done good to replace all the people it has lost, but the newness factor is bound to ware off. And the new WoW expansion is on the horizon. I think the NA population will take a major hit once people stop coming to the game. XIV has little holding power right now for a large chunk of the community.

So there is really no need to continue playing then.

Should she tell you when to wipe?

Also I have no idea why you asked this in the title.. Seems like you're just itching to get your confirmation bias confirmed. So in short only those who agree with you/your feelings are acceptable opinions.
