There's also the fact Nosgoth is a Squeenix Europe developed game that is obviously targeted to a different audience. Does Nosgoth have a Japanese server block? A large part of why FFXIV doesn't have servers IN Australia is due to your proximity to Japan. Poor latency to the JP servers would be moreso on your ISP than Squeenix. The problem I hear most from Aussie players is dealing with playing on a server with mostly Japanese players. Therefore a server or two labeled as Oceanic would certainly help to organize the Oceanic community onto a World where they don't need to learn a second language.

From singapore here and Id switch to a AU server if they had the option becuz playing on the US servers is terribly laggy

I think the distance from one end of Australia to Japan is many thousands of miles... though I'm not sure exactly how far.

Edit: Perth to Tokyo : 4929 miles

Second Edit: To be fair, Perth to Brisbane is 2244 miles, so chances are, even with an Australian Server, you're gonna be pretty far from the data centre (Though with few relays, which is probably a bigger impact than the sheer distance).
