Bard Novus: A helpful hand please?

    Hey.

I'm just about to get my Animus and plan to start Novus ASAP.
    Now, here lies my question(s):

    1. Is it beneficial as a Bard to go CRIT/DET?
    2. Is it possible to have a cheaper Novus? a 25/25/25, per say.

The max gil I've ever had was around 500k, what path should I go?

If gil costs are a factor, I'd recommend splitting acc/crit/det. Between the two I would highly recommend leaning towards crit, even max it if you can (though savage aim materia are pretty expensive too...). Crit is -enormously- powerful for bards, as it factors into your Bloodletter CD resets which basically means every other crit off of Venom/Wind gives you a free attack.

I'd also take you other gear into account and figure out a "safe" amount of accuracy. Are you planning on raiding? Bards will need, by turn 9, 491 accuracy to reliably hit.

I'm a i110 Bard with around 496(?) Accuracy. I do know you need at least -melee- Accuracy (516) for Phase 4, due to the fact we're in the front of Nael.

So I guess ACC/CRIT/DET is the way to go for me?

don't go exact 25/25/25 I'll say... since there are price difference at certain point such as after 8 1st tier you need to use tier II so @ 32 you need to use IV. however @30 you will started to face horrible rate like 60%. So try to push det and crit to where you started to feel uncomfortable. like my Deli's spear, I think I do +32 crit, +23 det +20 acc. Since I put weapon for acc, I can feel free to use the body piece that doesn't have acc boost than the soldiery piece. Then, my Deli don't feel pressured that he must eat acc food or put on acc accessories.

    I'll go with cheapest.
in order to go to certain acc requirement, you need X amount of acc. So, if your weapon don't have that acc, it need to come from your other parts. Now you know your other parts pretty much free and SE always offer 2 version of same slot for you to choose. Since you are not the master of making gil, I'll say go with cheapest.

Keep in mind you can also boost accuracy for specific runs with food; if you're at the T8 cap then you should be able to reach T9's cap with lava toad legs or similar food. You say you're at 496, with how much accuracy currently on your bow?

    Just for an example,

I had enough money to do what I wanted with my BRD Novus. I went 40 Crit/24 Det/11 Acc.

You'll have people out there that say the Novus is worthless if you don't maximize those secondaries. I think 'worthless' is too harsh. There are obvious benefits with going 44 crit and 31 det. I chose to add the Accuracy to future-proof it for final coil. With that 11 accuracy at full BiS (minus the HA weapon) mine is sitting at 497. I'm not sure why you would be positioned in front of Nael as a Bard? Anyway, in my static I am always behind Nael, and 497 is enough to never miss so I can use Crit/Det food instead of wasting a food attribute on accuracy.

The obvious benefits of 44 crit + 31 det only apply to content with no acc cap. For content with an acc cap it really depends on synergy with your other gear while meeting the acc requirement.

I didn't have the gil honestly for the 44 crit / 33 det bow, so for my Novus bow I added Det up to two tier IV's, did Crit up to maxing out the tier III's, and put the rest into acc which got me a comfortable acc cap.

Go 44Crit/31 Det UNLESS you are severely lacking accuracy. You either have to put accuracy on your Novus or find other gear that compensates for lack of accuracy.

Though that's only if you are even doing Coil content, in which case you'll probably drop gear there that will get you accuracy.
