There's no way to run this game in 640x480.

These resolution options aren't working for me. I'm not sure why it can only go down to 1024x768. I am looking for 800x600 or 640x480 for increased performance.

That's because the official system requirements for the game state that 1280x720 is the bare minimum resolution possible to run the game (I read that just then off the back of my ARR Collector's Edition box) - lower resolutions are not supported as they're regarded as obsolete, and thus, simply will not work no matter how hard you try.

If your system is having issues running the game at higher resolutions, have you tried adjusting your graphic settings, turning off graphic enhancements like dynamic shadows and turning down things like draw distance? These can all have a major impact on how well the game runs more than just changing the screen resolution. If this still doesn't work, then I'm afraid your computer just isn't powerful enough to play FFXIV.

I once traveled with my laptop so I would be able to do coil with my weekly static... Trust me, playing on the lowest possible resolution is already REALLY cramped (unless you prefer huge UI windows). Even if you adjust the sizes to be smaller, it's just... ehhhh. I play SMN and I remember having a hard time even seeing renauds as they spawned in T7. LOL.

Well you can adjust the ui option to be smaller. so you make it smaller and it's back to normal. also makes the black bars of widescreen go away. it's the same basically.
