Additionally, didn't someone say that the game didn't technically start til end game, level 50, and all the levels before are just tutorials?

That was either a joke or a comment from someone who's never played the game. There's a ton of stuff going on from 1-49. I keep trying to slow down my leveling so I can see a bit more of it before out-leveling, but even dividing content between eight combat classes, that's hard to do.

No, I think it might have been a developer or something. Granted, I think it was said way back during 2.0 or 2.1... >3>
And all that level 1-49 stuff is either main story or side questing to get equipment, money, and EXP. :B
All the good, juicy stuff doesn't happen til 50.
(Plus, almost all of the stuff added from updates are for level 50+. D: )
