New Player on the Lamia Server - Could use some guidance

Hello!
I have some syntax type questions as these games start to run together after awhile, lol:
Free Companies - Is there anyone who knows the FCs on Lamia that would take a brand new player?

Classes/Jobs - I love tanking. So I have a Gladiator, that I will speciailize as a Paladin, and cross-train Pugilist, Maurader for some skills. Anyone recommend anything else that will help me tanking?

Dungeons/raids/End Game - I suppose this is somewhat tied to the server, Lamia in this case, but how much interest is there in dungeons and raiding? I enjoy doing dungeons and seeing the content in raids. I do hope I can make some friends in a Free Company and progress to doing group work.

Crafting - I am starting out with mining and Armourer on my Gladiator. Good move? Anyone have some tips on crafting for profit?

Anyone on Lamia that is recruiting new players, I would love a chance to meet some people!

Pugilist skills can help you while you're a Gladiator, but Paladin can only use cross-class skills from Marauder and Conjurer. And you'll need to level Conjurer to 15 to unlock the Paladin job quest at Gladiator level 30. You'll eventually want to take Marauder to 26 and Conjurer to 34 to have all your cross-class skills available.

It will vary from server to server, but with the exception of the current top-tier 8-man raid, dungeons and raids happen through the Duty Finder, which will fill in any empty spots in your party with random players from any server in your data center. Lamia is on the Primal data center, so you can get matched with players from: Behemoth / Brynhildr / Diabolos / Excalibur / Exodus / Famfrit / Hyperion / Lamia / Leviathan / Malboro / Ultros

Anyway, there isn't a ton of content to do other than dungeons and raids, so I wouldn't expect the demand to be any less on Lamia than anywhere else. With a few exceptions of content that just isn't run much past the first time, you shouldn't have trouble finding people to do dungeons/raids in general. Especially as a tank.

Gathering (mining) is pretty easy money. Basically just mine away and watch what sells.

Crafting is a whole other ball of wax. You can fill in some gear slots for yourself here and there, but whether you can do it better or cheaper than other sources depends on your dedication and luck. If you want to get seriously into crafting, it's going to mean leveling pretty much every single craft to some degree in order to get important cross-class crafting skills. But you can easily take it fairly casually for now and worry about saving yourself money. The biggest thing is to be aware of where to get materials. There's a lot that's sold at vendors, and a lot that's sold by players, so it's smart to check around before you go mining up a bunch of stuff you could just buy for cheap (unless you're getting mining XP to boot). I use xivdb to look things up.

Also, save your leve allowances for crafting and gathering. They're both much easier to level (especially past level 15-20) with leves than just grinding them out, and leves are not all that great for battle classes.

Also, I did my first dungeon last night! It was the one near Limsa Lominsa - we cleared it and no one died. Took me a little bit to get my bearings in there, but it was a blast!

One other question I had to remove from my original post (1000 char limit, really?) I have seen people in the world have a Chocobo pet attack with them? Is that tied to a class or could i eventually have that ability as a Gladiator?

There's no character limit on edited posts. Embrace cut & paste.

The ability to get your chocobo fighting along with you comes with a level 30 side quest. Doesn't matter what class you are, as long as it's Disciple of Magic or Disciple of War. Here's a handy reference for all the other stuff you can unlock by level (spoilers!).
